Mike Why does macromedia keep distributing the buggy player from the front page of your site - ????
Not even telling that it has serious problems and that it may crash peoples computers.
In my oppinion thats as unproffesional as it gets.


Allso I've tried to get the flashplayer5 from the current link for ie explorrer.
I download the cabfiles but they contain the buggy flash6 player.

I gather the player is still being distributed because it is a bug and only affects a certain part of the flash movie. A lot of flash mx content can be viewed with no consequences of the bug and therefore it still needs to be released.

Hopefully, the flash player and the codebase tag can be used by developers effectively to update users players with the minimum of fuss

If it was a bug that only affected Flash 6 content I would be happy that it's still being distributed since those of us affected can just put in the new codebase to our code and there will be no problem.
However, this affects Flash 4 and 5 content, those sites can't update their codebase, normally those that still code in older versions are doing so due to the wide deployment of the plugin, updated their codebase would defeat the point of using an older plugin.
This is also an issue that affects non-flash sites and intrudes on to the bandwidth of other people HTML sites. It's not a rare problem, simply surfing the net will cause a problem, flash content is stealing bandwidth, this is a serious issue.

If the new player had been promptly released then perhaps this wouldn't be an issue. But since it's now been nearly a month I think macromedia should pull the player until the issue has been fixed.
This is transforming into a massive problem.

Yes! I can figure out it was on last Friday, but wouldn't it of been clearer to just say May 3rd? Or don't you want to specify an exact date?

If he said May 3rd and it wasn't exactly that date then "someone" would undoubtedly complain and say why didn't he just give us a range of dates. So take it easy dude.

Man, it's amazing how the "lovable" Flash community seems to be turning on MM. So fickle. MM finally comes clean and tries to tackle the situation and I see people complaining about not having a date on the technote. Gimme a break.<br><br><b>It's all about business, people</b>. MM is one of the leading web software manufacturers in the world. Do you really think that they are going to plaster banners all over their website and the web saying, "WE SCREWED UP! DON'T DOWNLOAD OUR STUFF! YOU CAN'T TRUST OUR ENGINEERING!"? They are quickly trying to fix the problem without damaging their brand in the public forum. I would try to do the same and I'm sure any smart business would too. Sometimes, things just take time, and I seriously doubt that they're just sitting around, blowing-off the problem.<br><br>Also, lay off of Mike. It's not like he owns the company. I'm sure he's doing the best he can in a corporate situation that we know little about.

I know this issue is getting tired now, and I appologize. Could someone possibly answer one more question?

Macromedia address's the issue of content continuing to load, and is proposing a fix for it.

If someone has already answered this question I am sorry for the inconvience, could you politely call me an idiot and point me to the answer.

(sorting through the various threads, all the name calling, and irrate people, is giving me a headache)

also, are you sure that this is an MX issue, and not a coding issue? i.e. does your code work in earlier players?

Here is the FLA file:

The code works fine locally. But testing as streaming, or on the web, results in the file not continuing to load.

This is just an audio only file that is controlled by the player. I have added a button in the first frame to trigger the preloader. It should make sense I believe. It appears to work fine on Macintosh systems, but not PC's.

sorry, also note in the FLA, audio has to be added to the audio scene, AUDIO layer, Audio Start Label to see what was going on. I removed a 14 MB .wav file for downloading purposes
