The project is succeeding beyond our wildest dreams. We have now screened the data base of 3.5 billion small molecules against two of the protein targets and made substantial progress with the more detailed analysis. The project has thrown up some 800,000 hits, according to Professor W. Graham Richards, Chairman of Chemistry at University of Oxford's New Chemistry Laboratory. Of those 800,000 hits 10-30% look good and some very good. We are rapidly approaching one million PCs participating and a contribution of 50,000 years of CPU time donated, and the response of the worldwide public has been amazing.

how does joining to a team can help to cure a cancer? is there a company that want to contribute their money for each people that join the team or what?

when you join team flashkit, you have signed up to donate the down time of your computer to doing research for the oxford univerity cancer research program through a company called united devices.
the software that you download looks after the running of the programme, and if you have a cable/dsl connection you barely know that it is running. the programme runs at low prioriy and will quit when you are utilising all of your cpu's capabilities.
no money changes hands, oxford university has nearly a million computers doing research in what would normally be downtime, and we all get to do something to fight a disease that effects 1 in 3 of us - by doing nothing extra, just letting our computers churn some calculations while we are not using them.
the programme tests the possible reactions between cancer cells and new drug protiens to determine if they new protien has the possibility of affecting the cancer in a benificial way. hopefully one of these drugs will eventually be able to help cure cancer
please consider joining over 250 fellow flashkitters, inculding mark fennel ( mr flashkit) in this search for a possible cure.

hey hobbi, juels, starchie, razor et al., i'm finally up aqnd running again after serious puter probs. ye might remember i was hoping to get college, well, i got it. i'm now offically a mature student studying computer science. and the point of this... i'm currently going from lab to lab installing the UD agent on every computer i can get at.
the moral of the story... lots of P4's on team flashkit. only 10 so far.. but i hope to have over 100 b4 the week is out!

wow congrats sonofalightbulb!! that's gunna be so much power, congrats on gettin into your course... i'm hopin to study computer science. you'll be on top soon. Poor Juels, you were king for so long but now you are overtaken by two others. At least you are king of the amount of work units done, and that's what counts :D
i have been internetless for ages - stupid phone line broke but all is good now.

Yeah unfortunatly i'm slipping down the line!:( but I've just said goodbye to 2 of my employees so that means I've got 2 machines spare! :) They are not that powerful but every Mhz counts!
Cancer is hit home hard at the moment, my friends granpa died last Saturday night of stomach cancer. Its such a cruel diease!:(

My UD just stoppped !!! I had about 3500 points en and a lot of time on my counter ! But the last 6 days he wasnt going any further then my 3500 points and was stuck at 12 mins on my new project...even my name was not in the database anymore..cause I RE registered under DaPurno

The computer labs in the college are setup in such a way that i loose the ud agent every time the machine its on is shutdown. although most ppl here just log off the network as opposed to shutting down, and the agent continues to work away so long as there's someone logged onto that machine. so no prizes for guessing whos going round from comp to comp using the guest login to get things going, but trying to do it every day is a real pain in the ass. But since its for a worthy cause i don't mind.
I've been in touch with the students union to try and get support from them before i approach the head lab technician. Its handy that i know the union president, so thats some support gauranteed.
Unfortunately the lab technicians office is on the other campus, so i wont get to it today, but hopefully i'll get to that next week. in the meantime i've sent him an email with information about the project, so hopefully he'll geta chance to get onto it.
