that's where you're wrong. atoms are specified as having a mass. with mass, you can determine, in a specific point of time, not only X and Y, but also Z. Therefore, it will always have 3 dimensions. so, you're deduction is flawed.

you are assuming an atom is a three dimentional entity
because your brain(genarally speaking) can't picture anything else which is behind a 3d vision of reality
it wont make any sense out of it so we must be leaving in a 3d world
we use math and we apply to our 3d system of seeing things

also, to be "inside" of something, you will have to be able to either laterally, vertically, or horizontally maneuver into that space. space... always 3 dimesions. the motion you described in your example... also 3 dimensional.

but, you want to confuse things? try taking 0! and 1! (zero and one factorial) and then use that in regards to describing an instant of a mass. At that specific point, where 0! and 1! are the constants of that mass at that time, it's possible that two identical masses could possibly, if the aforementioned factorial was ever used to describe a mass,that the 2D and 3D object values for the object would be the same. therefore, it would mean that 3D and 2D are all the same at once. But both conditions would exist, and both would be solveable.
i am not saying that 3d doesnt exist what i am saying is
that the 3d world we leave in may not necessarely be the one that we see and feel with our senses

I don't buy into the illusion/Matrix things whatsoever. for no other reason than the fact that I don't think as linear as an "illusion" nor do I truly limit myself in just 3 dimensions.
it's convenient. but for each dimension, other possibilities exist. and I believe in other things before I believe in this "illusion" that you speak of.

haha thats quite a tricky question you probably will come up with the latest math formulas to prove to me and yourself that atoms are 3d objects i am no physicist
i am just talking based on my limited knowledge that i have of this beautifull world of quantum physics
here i am not trying to highlight the mathematical aspect of 3d reality but rather the way human brain see reality
atoms may as well be three dimensional objects the way you see it
but try to draw an atom on a piece of paper how would you draw it?
does it look exactly the same as it is in your mind ?
or better yet does that look anything like the real thing since you never seen it but only immagined it in your mind ?
how about energy ?? is energy something three dimensional?
how would you describe energy or particle that have no mass?

btw, photons, they propagate in not only a particle-like, but wavelike motion. but, they produce pressure. so... something is causing that. but that's a different subject altogether.

However is saying that our worl is 2D is wrong. It's really impossible to have 2D without a third dimension. Why? If only 2 Dimensions existedthey would have no depth, and would therefore have no volume, which means it's not there (Volume = L*w*d, but if d = 0, then we know volume = 0). Whoever says that we only have 3 Dimensions is equally wrong. Time is an essential dimension. If you have something that has not, will not, and is not existant in time, that means it has never existed at any time, which could be put as "it has and will never existed". In true 2D, you would see nothing. and you would there fore see nothing, and think you are dead!
