Christian Designers?

Whether it is unconstitutional or not to hire/not hire on the basis of religious affiliation is neither here nor there, especially as a good portion of FK regulars do not live in the US.

It could easily be seen as immoral though, as it bears zero relevance to the ability of the user to the job in question. Of course, it could bear relevance to whether the people at said company would want to work with you, but that too is odd, to say the least.

Anyway, where's jamescover? He's the resident FK christian designer. Maybe he's interested.

A lot Christians feel that they shouldn't enter into business parternships with a non-christian.

I don't think enstent was even talking about this so I'm a little confused as to why we are. ;)

I wasn't exactly looking for a Christian business partner or someone to work with. I just wanted to see if there were any Christians on FK! It would also be great to contact them and see if they are working on any interesting Christian projects.

to get in a business with someone you should both have the same views so the business can be run properly with less disputes

i feel that religion should be set aside from business, i only ignore the people that force or mention religion while talking about possible work...or if the work is dealing with any kind of religious activity

Eh? Does that mean you never work with anyone who doesn't have the same views as you??

umm... i think i'll duck in for a sec and say.. yeah.. to answer your question.. i'm a christian and i design websites.. nice to meet you!..

I'm not working on anything currently.. but I am working something out with my pastor to do a church web site.. I'm also trying to get my foot in the door at a couple of churches.. I think I could really sell a couple youth pastors on a good flash site for their youth groups..

SJT, noone is saying they won't work with non-christians..certainly not.

I can see wisdom in not partnering with someone who does not share your faith. There are just practical reasons for this..beyond the bible. If you don't see eye-to-eye on religion, you probably won't agree when it comes to business ethics and practices too.

when Christians have enough trouble agreeing between themselves on moral and ethical issues?!
There are some pretty immoral christians!
Personally I think morals and ethics are a societal issue rather than a religious one, but maybe that is just my outlook...

I would rather work with a person without labeling them!

I can tell you all this... in my experience with clients, the subject has never come up. Ever.

Non Christian doesn't equal non moral. Im agnostic myself, but I never take my clients down an unethical or immoral road, be they Christian, Wiccan, Jewish, or Satanic.

I think so yes because I am talking about individual people, therefore stereotypes do not apply (not for me anyway)

sure you can say "jews hold on to their money" "Russians are short" "New Zealanders smell" or whatever stereotype you want but when you meet someone you do not have to immediately shove them into a group.

Maybe this is unrealistic but well I've met some pretty mannish women, and some stupid scientists... so, hmmm..

I guess if you figure a belief in "Christ" denotes christianity... well then yes... I guess. I think that the difference between say Jews and Christians is the belief that God and Jesus Christ are one and the same tied together in a holy trinity of the Father, the son, and the holy spirit... While Jews believe that (and I am not schooled in the Judaism so I may be wrong) God is one supreme entity, and jesus christ was nothing more than a blasphemis prophet.

I would guess that the belief in Satan as a supreme entity is more a key to satanism than a belief in a christian trinity or old testament God beign Satans storied adversary. I have no idea by which half of the bible satanists base thier beliefs. so on that note... no.

And I would never classify that way.

What I said was that if you want to look out for yourself, you won't enter into a business partnership with someone who doesn't view business ethics the same as you...which is somewhat impossible without similar religous backgrounds. (I believe a persons beliefs on ethics and their religion are tied hand in hand)

As far as labeling...you can be discerning, without stereotyping.

This would never apply to a client, boss, etc..you would have no business! :)

It is wise when parternering. (The Bible says not to be "unequally yoked" with non-believers. In other words, in the same way you would yoke two cows of different stature together to plow a field, you should be just as discerning in your partnerships in the world.)

Pretty good advice (for everybody) if you ask me.

I am very much in the IT industry, I run my own web development company, I work at a Fortune 500 electronics company, and I'm enrolled in a technology degree program at a local college.

In addition, running a website with 60,000 some pages that relate to programming, web development, and web design makes me very open to peoples opinions... just not religious ones :) business and religion should be seperated unless you are in the business of religion... in that case... eh, nevermind :)
