Looking good. Thanks for the sites. What I meant about crap quality is that a lot of the gsarchives stuff isnt correct. His walk animation is his shield animation w/ the shield deleted. They dont have any of his walk w/ shield and sword attck animations either. So, I had to use thier mastersheet and acually cut out gifs to make a animated sprite, which took some pixel editing. Anyway, thamk again, look forward to the next code release.

you mean my kid icarus code? well, it's the same as the bubble bobble one (see my open source), except that you cannot go through platforms when you jump (you just have to replace _y-=xxx by the move(x,y) function)

did you tried google? it's always very helpful when you're looking for something in particular...
mmmh, i'm using SNES9X since it's the only SNES emulator that runs on a macintosh...

this is great! my AI configurations are not coming along very well... o well thats alright! i've devoted more time to converting this game to a simpsons game for my site. (SIMPSONS CROSSOVER STREET FIGHTER)

no, it's art based. you know, generaly i'm not quite satisfied with tile based games, because they run not very fast with me... i mean tile based games with a scrolling.
also, i'm not able to do a tile based game yet; i tried to look at a sample .fla, but it didn't convinced me... so here i am, with my art based games ^^

The truth being, most people are just rippiing off others sprites. I havent been able to find many animated sprites in good condition :).
I havent DL'ed the latest source yet, but you could you explain your collision detection when fighting between the two characters? That is, how are you detecting when you hit your oponent? My Zelda isnt tile based either. I was never really convinced to go that route, as it lookes to angled, and not real. Thanks again...

you can download my latest version now, because i'm not going to put updates and updates and updates again. with what you already have now, you can end up with something playable ^^
the life bar "bug" i posted above is really easy to fix, and some little things are easily expandable... except the AI of course, which will be not that easy to include ^^
to be honest, it just motivated me to continue my fighting game, hehe ^^ damn, i have a web site to work with also, arg!
about your hitTest question, take a look at my latest source, i explained all. the hittest is based like that:
i have one invisible squared MC put behind the characters, and one invisible MC that appears around your arm when for example when you hit with your punch... and when the two invisible MCs are colliding > hitTest, impact etc...
i know it's not really easy to understand a code that another person wrote (when i look at my old open sources, sometimes i say "mmmh, what's that?")... but my codes are generally not so hard since i'm not a great coder ^^

are you using the hitArea function? Or just attaching invisible squares and checking that squre when a move is pressed?

well, the squares are not attached, they are directly in the timeline, with the characters. you can see their border when you'll have my exanple .fla.
no way to attach them anyway, because their position is different with each move.

i was just looking thru your bubble bobble marmotte and i finally understood how it works. how simple! yet so neat. im debating with myself whether to switch to ur method for my character.
Looking good, just got the new source. I see what you mean by your hittest. Simple but effective.
Im having a problem though... Im trying to attach my character like you have, and putting his movement code into the first frame inside the his main MC. However, once I remove the onClipEvent code, I can't seem to get him to move. Ive attached a quick example w/ a ball. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for you help but im still having one problem. I need to attach that ball from the library, but if I do so, the code on the ball, will be attached. So then, where to put that funcion? Better yet, could you take a look at my example Link file, and see if you can get it attach to the stage w/ his code.

(i'm assuming you know how to link MCs from library and attach them)
you can put the function where you want; 3 things have to be correct though:
1) the name of your ball (call it "ball" while you are attaching it)
2) its target path (attach it on _root)
3) dont forget to activate the function (if you choose to use functions) with an onEnterFrame
really, you can attach the ball where you want, put your function where you want and activate it where you want. but the 3 points above have to be correctly done.
my advice is to put functions at strategic places (why not put all the code at the same place if possible?)

I have a list of suggestions which might help the gameplay. Let me know if you wanna me to e-mail them or post them..
I should have a character in the game in about 2 weeks or so.. :P
BTW, does ANYONE know if there's a way to test if a Movieclip exists or not? Something like

Sorry about that. I was speaking to you, Marmotte. In an eariler thread you mentioned you would be working on this and release sometime later. I offered sprites if you wanted them..etc..etc..
I'd still love to help you guys develop this but I'm unfortunately too busy with school.. :(
Anyhow, here's a list of suggestions:
- Have various degrees of knockback and hit times
- Have knockdown moves, both on the ground and in the air
- Throw and "special" throw frames. This is how throws were done in MUGEN. You had a standard set of about 12 sprites to be used for throws. They were different hit positions, and the only thing different between them was where the center point was. This allowed people to create complex throws and make sure the person will be at the right location.
- Slow the turn-arounds down or reposition the _x, so the person doesn't move as much. Currently, it's too easy to jump over a person and completely miss hitting them.
That's about all I can think of right now...
Hopefully I'll have time to fool around over break...
