Thought I'd let you know. We just got a brand new JVC D-ILA (JVC's new technology) in today and let me tell you first hand, the picture is awful. After messing around all morning I finally got it up to par with bugs life and some picture settings adjustments. I took the cable tv cord right out of it, because its unbearable.
this with digital input, or analog?
and it's not Lowe... it's Loewe. German origin.
D-ILA is a totally new technology? Or is that just JVC's re-branding of something else?
Component. But seeing it side by side with the dlp, no compairison. D-ILA is something new JVC just put out. I'm going to read up on it a bit to see how it works.

since hockey season isnt gonna happen this year, he has an extra year to find a tv that will show all the bone crunching action of hockey;)

We just got some new tvs in, thought I'd let you in on it.
LG Projection LCD. Sucks. The colors are faded and we got a dead pixel after only 1 week.
LG DLP isn't terrible, but not recommended. The colors are too high contrast, and if we turn down the contrast, its too washed. There seems to be no intermedium.
That JVC D-ILA I was talking about in an earlier post got a lot better. Don't know if it just needed sometime to warm up or what but as of now, its one of the better pictures I've seen. But it still has image burn and is more expensive than DLP.
We got the new lineup of Samsung DLP's coming in soon.
I talked my friend's boyfriend out of an LCD flat panel, into the Samsung DLP. (HLP series, but not on the pedestal.) He went a little nuts and bought the 50" one.
It's absolutley stunning in action at home. I didn't realize it had HDMI, and a regular 15-pin monitor input. Definitely the way to go. Now if only there was hockey to watch, I'd get one.
One thing I'm not sure about, the cable installer hooked it up for him (they had to get a different cable box.) The guy used the component connections instead of DVI, shouldn't he have at least used the DVI if the cable box didn't have HDMI? (Cheaper cables probably.)
As far as D-ILA, it's proprietary, and that makes me wary.
And yeah pooon, I wasn't impressed with the LG stuff either. Mitsubishi has a couple out now, my hopes aren't high.
Well, that took effing long enough, didn't it?
What does anyone know about the 360 upscaling DVD's? Right now it'll only output 480p in DVD mode.

@DLP fanboys...every single tv tech out there has it's issues. With DLP, you get rainbow effect, you get bad vertical view issues, and size (depth of 10 inches or more) issues, not to mention rapidly degrading bulbs due to oversaturated factory settings. I have a friend that has one in his basement (no ambient light whatsoever) directly in front of a couch and loves it. In the living room (lots of ambient light), a 46 inch LCD on the wall -- he loves this one too.
@PAlexC (again) - just make sure that whatever you are getting is the right one for the majority of the tasks/locations you will be using it in. At this point, after 2+ years of consumer research you are probably more informed than anyone else with comments in this thread. I am interested in hearing the (final!) outcome...
I've done the HDMI/Component test. To my untrained "consumer level" eyes, I saw no difference. I can't speak to DVI though, but can't imagine it would be any better than HDMI.Quote:

Most plasmas don't come in 37...and frankly, I wanted to keep the cost within reason, given the amount of TV I actually watch.
Ah ok, 42" is the smallest one. My next one will be 60" or more ... I really can't go smaller than my current one, right? ;)
Anyway, that will be years away, so get on with your "small" stuff. :D

Buddy of mine just got a sharp aquos with 1080p. Beautiful picture.
The upscaling isn't that great. I've got my 360 and my PC hooked up to my TV. In a direct comparison, the 360 looks like garbage.Quote:
