Great critique EVP and Gerbs, that really helps.

I agree 100% with your points, and it really does come down to the lighting issue. The blood splatter is just that, gerbs, overlay(ed).
The burn/smudge/dodge tools are probably the ones I overlook the most.

The biggest problem I have is just trying to finish an image. I spend alot of time working on it, and just want to post it rather than really getting the details down. Or, sometimes, i spend so much time on an image, and get stuck with whatever I ideas initially came up with rather than thinking about other possibilities (see March Madness, it's exactly what I did).

So, for any 'student' of photoshop reading this, take your time, leave the computer for a while, come back after a while, and critique your image more. Then add/subtract anything that needs to go in the image. Utilize ALL tools available to you, brushes and blending only get you so far.

I love the image lefteye, I have the same issues. I am always afraid of over working it and messing it up, so sometime it is underdone.

I will get mine up ASAP.

Do you mean the girl behind the window? Not sure if that's what you meant by 'hidden', but no one brought it up yet... also, you don't notice it at first glance, which in my opinion makes it such an ingenius affect: you most like see it subconciously, but visually you don't, so the end result is you get an eery sense of being seen when you can't see 'it', and it creates a very spooky feel. (That's my theory anyway:)) Well done!

This brings up something interesting, too: how many other people like to hide things in their vollies? I personally love to, but often don't(I do more in my personal works not used in battles(which are usually more rushed and formulaic), and I confess I have this bad habit of loving to hide things in clientwork :smoov:)

you guys just don't know how much I hide into my volleys. It's never visible enough to be easily spotted. and when/if I share my PSD's, I remove it all.

scans of lawsuits, pictures of people, paintings, domokun, motorcycles, handlebar moustaches, school uniforms, buffalo, infamous people, harvey birdman, my logos for my sites... and tons of other things. some so obscure, you'd have to have seen where I sampled it from.

good variations on the images so far, guys, but a slight critique.

Ghostgirl, I think you could have built in some more imagery, and reflected more. Some faked highlights to make the eye look more "rounded", something you lost when you pulled it that close, would have made the transition a bit more gradual/smooth.

Also, the circular text and heavy emboss. I can't say I'm a fan. It works, but dunno, it just looks tacked on.

The EYE!!! I've had experience volleying with this...check out my first battle, it was in like 3 images, i guess I'm gonna have to be more creative to be different.

just some highlights to make the eyeball looks more "curved" and glossy. I've yet to use a prior image, but I'd take it, use a selection (circle) and then feather it's edges on top of the prior image. Then I'd use spherify to distort it a bit, apply with overlay, under all of my forced colorization and/or highlights, and then go from there.

I can show that version too, if need be.
