Thats cool, first link have cpu usage 1-2% and second have 20% on my 3 ghz. can you try to do a version in like 800x600 or something? when i try to resize only the swf its going slow.
Nice, caching speeds up normal png's also. But in reality, this might not be so cool in games, when you have animation and rotation. That said, I see alot of people clicking the cache button, and some flash 'cache all bitmap' scripts.
its still useful on static objects in games.
here is a flash 8 640x480x40fps scroller, what fps and cpu usage?

(its 100x20 vector tiles with different alpha)
25 fps on 1.6 Ghz iMac G5, 1.25 GB of RAM
Yes, I got a better computer. =)
Firefox - 28 fps 47% cpuQuote:

11 fps, 100% cpu usage on 500 mhz pc.Quote:

And the PNG example goes from 25fps to 50! That's what I call an improvement.
Also it seems that this beta player runs faster on the Mac (quite strange I must admit) than Windows...
:)
I always knew the Beta player would be faster on Macs. Macs are just generally faster, and now that we have the speed boost that Windows got back with Flash 4, it's a lot more evident.
Heli Attack 3 dudes, can you make a Bitmap Caching version of your game? I wanna see how fast it is at optimal speed. =)

On the png test, i'm getting 0-2% CPU in both On mode and Off mode. Most of the time it remained at 0% though :D
Edit: I was holding down the arrow key when I did this, and of course i did it right in the middle of all the pictures so that the pictures weren't off the screen.
I was talking about when I'm hold down a arrow key so it scrolls all the time. But though getting different results, maybe other windows/programs affect.
0-2% CPU in cached PNG test. Mac OS X is amazing at handling memory and CPU usage.
Oh I thought for a moment that the rumours was true ;-)

Flash 8 has some potential in speed and nice effects. Played a little bit but memory can run away a lot with bitmap caching. Don't know if its a bug but have problem to apply filter on too big movieclips. Its nice that its backward compatible so you can add special extra effects for them who have the new version.
Yeah, sorry for the lack of precision. I just run a quick test :)Quote:

P4 3.0Ghz/HT - Win XP sp2 - IE 6 with fp8beta
iMac G5 2.0Ghz - MacOS X 10.4.2 - Safari with fp8beta
Vector Version:
Win: 35-42fps - 75/85% cpu
Mac 50fps - 60/80% cpu
PNG Version
Win: 44-52fps - 80% cpu
Mac 50fps - 50-60% cpu
It seems that the Mac version delivers more steady fps with less CPU consumption... I guess this is the first time in the history of the flash player!
Lapo :)
Little bitt odd that you didn't get any better results with png when other have got very low cpu usage.
Like always the demo movies looks unlimited and in reality its some possibilites using it in right way. And all people haven't fast computers so... but the skills is to do things that suit Flash. I just implemented some extra Flash8 details in my latest multiplayer game that im gonna release soon after the summer.
If you want to check out some examples using the new features in F8, here's a great link: http://franto.com/blog2/collected-li...strom-examples
Well, technically I didn't have the Safari browser window focused when I took that CPU usage percentage... *shifty eyes*
