Thanks Tomsamson.

Thanx tomsamsom, it sounds really cool. The only bad thing I see is that there won't be any 2nd place and else, but it's good that you can deal with them anyway.
I'm also making a game for the games of gondor contest but I guess I'll give both a try if I have enough time, anyway I have some incomplete works that are in line waitin to be called games.
I'm just wondering, is $3000 a fair licensing price from miniclip? I mean, if a game of a certain quality would fetch the same or more under normal circumstances, what's the point in entering the contest?
Perhaps some people who have delt with miniclip can clarify this, I'm not asking for specific numbers mind you, just a yes or no would be cool ;)
if u win it,
for 2 months u can get $3k. u get free publicity for ur game as welll. so why not?
if u think u can make more money than that in 2 months by selling ur game, then dun enter. :/
i guess i'm in,
afterall - you don't loose anything if you loose :)
right?
what about you tom?
are you in?
I think $ 3000 is pretty good considering that the exclusive license runs only 2 month. After that miniclip keeps the game, but you can do what you want with it, including reselling, licensing and so on.
The game developer keeps the whole rights on his game, miniclip only needs the swf.
BUT: Before entering I need to know if the winner game doesn't become a "free site content" game at miniclip. That wouldn't be good.
It sounds like a great competition, there'll be plenty of great games, so lots of fierce competition. Looking forward to seeing the winner, let's hope the winner is someone from this board. :)
i'm 70% sure he's going to be from this board. if not, we'll need to drag him here :)Quote:

Exactly, which is something everyone should keep in mind. It's all well and good them having a non-exclusive ( Which is how miniclip always licence software as far as I've ever heard / experienced ) but on the last day of the two months you don't really want your game mc branded and pushed out to every shovelware site on the net.
Squize.
That is probably negotiated later when signing the contract.Quote:

This would indicate that the game won't be made "free web content" by miniclip. To add to this, I've been under the assumption (I've never delt with miniclip personally, so I can't speak from experience) that the freedom to make games avaliable to anyone via miniclip is a special clause in their licensing contracts. Given the case, I'd assume that they would specifically state if this was apart of the contract on offer.
If anyone decides to email miniclip for clarification, feel free to post the findings here :)
"is a special clause in their licensing contracts"
No it's not mate. Both MJ-12 ( In it's lame "Space Invaders" form ) and Twiddlestix were put in the free section, because we didn't explicitly state that we didn't want that ( Didn't know any better at that time ).
As to a contract, in the case of MJ it was just an invoice to mc.

Do you guys think the port of Barbarian wouldn't apply, because of the graphic violence ? (blood buckets, and decapitation ) - Slight have made a damn fine job ... this will be a fun game !
I can't remember any Miniclip games with blood, decapitations and such...
Maybe make them robots?
(Also, you better make the wizard a lot easier than the original game! I got really miffed when I got to final level only to be killed by the wizard in like two seconds...) :p

Barbarian robots Versus Ninja Pirates, sounds like interesting for a medieval freak like me :D
am i the only one confused about the wording of the contest? many posts in this thread seem to suggest that the winner receives the $3000 contract for the winning game, however -- i'm almost positive that the deal is:
-you make a game and submit it to the contest
-you win
-you get a contract for $3000 to make _another_ game for miniclip
..which would mean $1500/game.
so basically: you get to be payed less than they usually pay their developers, and they get a game that's better than their usual games.
i might just be misreading though, and/or overly suspicious of this sort of proposal -- the cartoon network tried something similar with their project goldmaster "contest" at the IGF.

Well, I think you get $3000 for the game you submitted, not for _another_ game.
yeah,i asked miniclip a few things before posting this and they made clear the winner gets the 3000 $ for the game he submitted.
I hope so considering their filesize limit:Quote:

I just added some sound to my game last night and the filesize jumped to 1.5 MB! And there are no enemies yet! *gulp
File size is ALWAYS a fun factor to deal with. :D
