It doesn't sound like Nero. It sounds like either a driver issue or a hardware issue. Since you have another PC with a DVD drive in it...try swapping the drives. At least that will confirm if it's either a hardware/driver or a software issue.Quote:

This is a slimline drive in a notebook, the other computer is a tower / drive bay.Quote:

That's the direction I am persuing... I am waiting a callback from my notebook manufacturer right now to make sure I get the latest and correct chipset drivers.Quote:
Q. My CD-R/RW disc is showing as empty but I know there is data on it.
A. There might be different reasons for this issue:
1. If the disc is written using UDF/packet writing then it is necessary to install an UDF driver (such as 'VOB Instant Write') on the system you use for reading the disc. If an UDF driver is already installed please make sure that it is not disabled.
2. This issue also can occure if you have the wrong or an old chipset driver installed on your system. Please try to install the latest version of the chipset drives, that you can download from the mainboard manufacturer's website or from the chipset manufacturer.
3. Another reason might be that the last session written on the disc was not correctly finished and therefore the TOC (table of contents) has not been updated - or the session was not closed. Please start you burning software and try to close the session or import the session and reburn it to a different disc.
Yea, Google took me there a couple times on my searches... good site.Quote:

hmmm, usually firmware updates and closing the session usually resolves this type of situation.
Strange one indeed dude. any errors in the Event Viewer pertaining your reader/writer?
You know what's bothering me? When nero is done, it pops open Explorer showing my newly burned DVD and it looks ok... the session is still open! I haven't found a way to disable that yet.Quote:

On the Burn tab within the burn wizard, you should be able to set up "Finalize" with a click. also, trim down the maximum speed of your burn, and burn it at 4x and finalize the disk, uncheck Simulate, just make sure Write is checked and try again.
Via the Event Viewer, see if you have any ATAPI or something similar errors.
Seeing the list might mean simulation... sounds strange, but hey, worth a try.
Yea, like I said the burned DVD's load fine in my other computer.Quote:

burning down at 2x/4x might limit the amount of data on the bus; however even that might not be a solution.
But it could be a simple thing like a dirty lens to a faulty one to a bad connection to of course, the media.
Just curious, but does it burn and read a +R?
yea, it is a laptop.Quote:

as far as +R no, this drive is -R only.
have you tried hunting down a burned DVD that was burned on some other burner? then you could at least deduce that its all burned DVD's that dont play. and i would think you would be justified in using any warranties if they are in effect.
Yea, I have put a dvd in that was burned with this burner at one point or another... it loads fine... :confused:Quote:
