exactly...i REALLY think that helped. like you said, i was doing this for my own health, not my cheering squad. i think most professionals will tell you that letting your support group know is critical to sucess, but that's BS if you ask me.

Awesome, good luck admedia!
I quit a little over a month ago. I said the only thing that would make me quit was having a baby...so i smoked right up until 2 weeks before the birth. I kept putting it off of course, until i absolutely had to quit because i had told everyone that i was quitting before the baby was born. Dumb idea.
So everybody always asked me...finally one friday night, it fell into place. I cant keep cigs around me when i quit, i'm a sucker and i'll smoke them. So if i had a few in my pack when i went to bed saying i'll quit, of course the next day i'd smoke them up and go buy a new pack. But that night i perfectly ran out of smokes right before bed, then i used the patch for 2 weeks and have quit ever since.
Its so hard though, everyday i want a smoke...i hope its not like this for the rest of my life. Stupid kids...think smoking is cool and fun...it sucks, and now i have to crave something for the rest of my life.
Yea, I quit cold-turkey for a year... and picked it up again a couple years ago... so I know what I have to do. I did it quietly and strongly then, that's how I am approaching it now. I remeber being so afriad after being smoke free for a few weeks to go to a Kid Rock / Metallica show in Miami... thinking oh no, I am going to party, I am going to smoke.... but it really wasn't a problem. I had already accepted I am a non-smoker.
No big announcement to the family, friends, or anyone... I did mention to my wife the other night I was going to quit... no particular time frame, just said I am gonna quit smoking.
I have to quit though.. I figure I have been a smoker now for a longer period of my life than a non-smoker. I find that fact kind of disturbing.
I embrace the urge, heal with the pain. :mrt:
I do appreciate all the support and words here as well... thanks.
That's my plan too. But at this point i may be a smoker for life...no kids coming anytime soon here.Quote:

No, definitely not an excuse. I've had that 'policy' since i was much younger and smoking.Quote:

Hahaha... I remember that stage. That sucks. Yea, it will go away altogether eventually, but it takes soooo damn long.... you'll make it through just fine though. :)Quote:

Good...i cant wait for it to go away. I think its the physical aspect of smoking that i miss so much. I loved the feeling of inhaling a puff...and blowing it out ya know? I really enjoyed smoking...too bad it kills.Quote:

Congratulations Admedia... I bet you can't wait to taste and smell food again!
Have you cleaned out/thrown away all your old smoking parifinalia? Empty car ash trays, old cigs, lighters, matches etc... you can bin all that now! :) (don't burn it though, you'll be breathing deeply trying to get that last fix) ;)
Same here Creative. I have quit for short spurts a couple of times but I like it to much. That in itself isn't what causes my relapses, besides personal weakness I have one friend that smokes, he is the type that always would mock me and take deep drags in front of and then offer one. It would take a good 30 min before I would give in but I always did.Quote:

I have 1.5 packs left and I plan on quiting starting Sunday. Mondays suck why not make it worse.
I was most successful when exercising, eating healthy and drinking alot of water. I almost quit without really relizing it doing this. I went from a pack a day to 5 cigs a day before I really noticed. Then started working evenings more and quit exercising. And thats all she wrote.
4 of the colleges around here just started a promotion for smokers. Stop smoking for all of April and you get a chance to win a $3000 gift certificate to Best Buy, Target or Ikea (or some other places).
I noticed already today how much more I can taste and smell.Quote:

Hahaha... just now I ate some cheese I thought was pepperjack... my mouth is really burning, I thought it was from not smoking, turns out it's habenero cheese :yikes: ... my mouth is really burning now!
I quit in '99. No one came within 20 feet of me for a month. I am one of those that still considers himself a smoker.....for life. I love the smell, especially the smell of a good cigar or decent pipe, but I won't go near a cigarette because I'll start again.
Good luck Admedia, I hope this goes smoothly for you.
for every one you dont smoke, Im having two.
Good luck buddy!
(forgot to add this on to post)
good luck, 2 weeks. if you can make it for 2 weeks, you're solid
wow... you had to sit through a kid rock set and you still didn't have one? That's strong.Quote:

If you are going to quit... don't ween yourself. Don't have 1 cigarette. Not 1 puff. It's really hard for 18 hours... after that that strong physical addiction really subsides... I have been fine since 18 hours totally smoke free.
I think last time I weened myself a little bit... it took alot longer to get over the strong physical addiction.
Yay extra cancer death for you! :DQuote:
