I'm glad you think it's better too. Originally, this wasn't going to be a real game. It was just going to be a sample game engine that you could kinda play. Once I realized it was becoming fun, I started making it into a game. At that point I knew I had to tweak the controls a bit. Besides, this shows how a proper engine up front can dramatically reduce the work of changes later. Tweaking the controls meant editing only one method. Pretty much all changes thus far have been simple to implement because the game engine itself is flexible.
As for graphics, I totally agree but unless someone gives me a hand with the artwork, I won't be adding em in. This could be as simple as someone just posting a link to an image that I could use. As this is a freebie, I'm not going to bust my butt trying to cobble together sound and images if the community itself isn't willing to help.
Have fun!

Ok, next update. Added in the concept of gun modes. If you read my first post you can see the details. Basically, firing has been dramatically improved and added upon. Press the "m" key while playing to change the firing mode to see how it works. Please let me know what you think. Thanks!

Wow, that gun change is pretty cool. I've always wondered how to do that kind of stuff. Keep up the good work!

Second update today: Added in the ability for enemies to shoot, the hero ship to be hit and take both shield and hull damage. I also tweaked the bullets look and speed. As before, please let me know what you think. Thanks!
