Not if they're freely available on the net. :D
But what's illegal is the DDOS attack MediaDefender initiated against MediaDefender-Defender.

According to a new torrent post over at The Pirate Bay, MediaDefender-Defender's (MDD's) have struck again. This time, they managed to release the source code MediaDefender uses in its anti-piracy efforts.
"MediaDefender-Defenders proudly presents the source code that MediaDefender use.
The source is complete for their operations regarding Kazaa, bittorrent, gnutella etc. This system is now released for the public in order to identify the decoys they set up. A special thanks to the MD employee that gave this to us."
The amount of intelligence gathered by the email leaks certainly gave the file-sharing community enough knowledge of the inner workings of this anti-P2P company. Although Slyck.com has not examined the source code, the amount of intelligence gathered from this 50 megabyte file is sure to outweigh the over 700 megabyte email file.

And if you read the comments on Pirate Bay:
They download their own source? lol :pQuote:
FFS, got media-deFriender on this torrent
client: ABC 3.1.0
IP: 38.118.54.82
ISP: balticore.net (check it out, `hey i logged your ip`)
Oh and a comment on Digg:
Damn, they should have hidden some cams inside the MediaDefender office. :DQuote:
The source code is PRICELESS. To quote from it:
MovieMakerModule.cpp Line 497: // Stolen code, begin
Line 560: // Stolen code - end
Thanks for letting us know what code you've stolen in the comments - we really appreciate it! Your hypocrisy will bite you in the ass soon enough!

not sure you should be posting links to pirate bay in here.
...spoilsport. Im enjoying all of this! :)
I think everyone interested enough to read through all the above posts does already know what the link to the bay is. ;)Quote:

TPB files charges against media companies
Thanks to the email-leakage from MediaDefender-Defenders we now have proof of the things we've been suspecting for a long time; the big record and movie labels are paying professional hackers, saboteurs and ddosers to destroy our trackers.
While browsing through the email we identified the companies that are also active in Sweden and we have tonight reported these incidents to the police. The charges are infrastructural sabotage, denial of service attacks, hacking and spamming, all of these on a commercial level.
The companies that are being reported are the following:
* Twentieth Century Fox, Sweden AB
* Emi Music Sweden AB
* Universal Music Group Sweden AB
* Universal Pictures Nordic AB
* Paramount Home Entertainment (Sweden) AB
* Atari Nordic AB
* Activision Nordic Filial Till Activision (Uk) Ltd
* Ubisoft Sweden AB
* Sony Bmg Music Entertainment (Sweden) AB
* Sony Pictures Home Entertainment Nordic AB
Stay tuned for updates.

I want an Atari Nordic AB t-shirt. Hook me up Subbers.
Dito. If I ever see one, I'll get two. ;)

The badly photoshop'd handcuffs should have been the first clue.
We can call it a prophecy for now. ;)

Yes. Almost everything you've read in this thread is way off base and belongs more on some kids hacker blog.Quote:

The FBI is currently investigating the hacking. So, it would seem that the only people who are going to be owned are those who broke in and stole the information. I'm pretty sure MD will have the last laugh if the hackers think they are safe in another country when the attorney general gets involved.
A couple other points to clear up. MediDefender is not a puppet of MPAA, RIAA, etc. Of the many companies that offer the same service they provide to try and break pirated movies, MD is the only one that does not provide IP addresses to the MPAA and RIAA.
Finally, considering the levity of the crimes committed and are furthered by posting private information about people, I wouldn't think that FlashKit would want any part of it. You guys know best what you should do for yourself. Just pointing it out.
I'm not a fan of many of the things the MPAA, etc. do either. But, I'm not sure why anyone should be excited about obstructing the efforts of law enforcement to catch thieves and child porn traders. Are you guys serious?
How much did they pay you? ;)
Fredi
Nothing. But, I do believe that not liking something someone else does is not justification to commit or even celebrate crimes against that person or group. This is a perfect example of why.
I think you need to look at your priorities if you think that its "comedic" that efforts to catch potentially dangerous criminals are being compromised because people want to punish those that would stop them from downloading free movies.
