I can't play it because I am colorblind and cannot tell ANY difference between your yellow and green flame. About 33% of adult men are color blind. It might be a good idea to make some other difference between the candles other than just color.
Maybe a symbol on the wax candle itself as well?

Ok, I think I fixed the button problem.
I'll post a new thread about the exact issue after I do a little more testing, but basically it seems like the old trick of putting all your assets in frame 2 and skipping that frame doesn't work in early versions of Flash Player 9. The play head has to actually pass through the frame for the assets to load.

Not at high as 33%, more like around 9% of males have forms of color blindness. I went to art school with a few friends that are color blind to an extent, but they can still work with color. Apparently there are many types of colorblindness... Wikipedia entry on color blindness.Quote:

The 33% number came from a show on colorblindness from (I think...) Nova. As far as where they got the number *shrug*. It always did seem high to me.Quote:

Then there is what I have, Anomalous trichromacy. Which is where you just don't see correct amount of a given color. So if it affects you in red, you can still probably see the color red, but may have troubles with the difference between purple and blue. Basically a hard time detecting the red in the purple. Same thing in green/brown. My opthomalogist says I am an uncommon sort because I actually have Anomalous trichromacy problems with all three of my receptors (red - green mostly). So telling colors is almost a guessing game for me. It gets to the point of picking colors based on what the MIGHT be, and then making selection based on which colors are most common in that color lightness.
So I will say Green all the time if you present me with a grasslike color, but if you give me a BRIGHT green, I will probably guess yellow. Putting a bright green and a bright yellow next to each other is nearly indistinguishable for me. Although you can trick me easy by giving me a grassy lightness brown and I might think green.
Easiest color combos for someone with Anomalous trichromacy are probably:
Black
Red
Blue
Bright Yellow
Dark grassy Green
Orange (lightness between the yellow and the green)
NEON Pink (a light pink can easily look white)
Grey would also work well, to make it more interesting to the colored folk, you could go teal
White
Possibly a dark brown if you put the lightness between the green and black.
Basically, when picking IMPORTANT colors, ones that are used in GAMEPLAY, think of what they would look like in greyscale. Because then all you have left is brightness/lightness. The colors should be distinguishable in black and white in order to be friendly to the colorblind folk. Not because we see in black and white, but because it is too hard to predict how we will see a color. Problems with the rods are much less common than problems with the cones. If you can't tell light from dark, you probably can't play the game to begin with.
Just checking in to say that it works now and it's a pretty good game. I enjoyed it.
I made some changes to the game:

I had a lot of trouble clarifying the candle part. I tried everything--different configurations, animation, using different objects. Most of the things I tried ended up being too distracting, to the point that you lost sight of the fact that those things are merely supposed to be indicators of how many cards are correct.
I think the solution I've come up with is better than what I had before, although still not perfect:
- I changed it so that only the candles with flames show up. I think this helps to break the association of candle and card position, at least for the first few tries. Hopefully, by the time you get to where you are seeing 5 candles you, you have a sense of how the game works.
- I tried to make the two candle types more visibly different, even to the colorblind (Alluvian, can you confirm?). Now the candles themselves are different colors (and tonal values), as well as being different heights.
- I made the HELP button pop a bit more visually.
- I added a Continue button at the end, so you can look at the cards as long as you want once the game is over.
- I tried to clarify the instructions a bit, but the differences are subtle.
Anyway, I think this will be the final version, unless some major problem comes up.

I don't mind if my colorblindness makes a game a little harder, I just get annoyed when it makes it impossible.
I like the atmosphere the game creates. Graphics are very good.
I understand the instructions ok.
Never played the mastermind game, it's interesting to play though I only managed to get 2 white candles on first attempt.
Nicely done. The sound effects get old pretty fast though, so I'd try to add some more. Other then that, it's a good version of Master Mind. Here is a game where I got a bit lucky :)

I like how the small change in instructions made it 10x clearer to understand how to play. and Great job on the graphics, as well as the sound.
