The math that explains the biggest things in the universe does not agree with the math (standard model) that explains the smallest things. This may prove the string theory and change everything we know about the stuff that makes stuff. Hydrogen powered cars will seem like child's play compared to the science that could come out of it.

Unless time travel and hot identical twins come out of this thing I call bogus.

Time and interdimensional travel may come of it. Part of what they want to prove is that extremely small pieces of mass borrow energy from the future in order to exist only to return it immediately. It could make warp drive seem silly in addition to fantasy.
It's already been postured that we may be able to communicate with other dimensions by causing absences in their gravity.

What happened to the countdown site? Is it down for anyone else? Maybe someone accidentally turned the machine on early and it got pulled into another dimension. :D

I got the impression it would help discover why we can't detect 90% of the Universe's mass - dark matter, etc., by creating particles that make up dark matter.

and you would be right. Even if the Higgs boson test fails, their are a number of other tests that will be ran.
