Game Challenge #7: RESULTS!

I am with pseudobot. I'd prefer to have more time for getting the whole game done rather than doing a part of it or so, I'd feel like doing something incomplete. It might be just me, but I feel quite more exciting getting a game done, than just a part of it, plus you can have totally different games and ideas, aswell as more use of originality than restricting the comp to something more specific. Also, I think that wouldn't be as cool as checking out a whole gamma of games at the end. This comp ended really well, and it showed it can be held with good results, even in the short time :) That's my opinion.

IMO Even if I got more than 48 hours, the chances are that I wont be doing much work on weekdays.

Perhaps Friday, but then you really lose the entire weekend. Part of the fun is the rush of coding frantically as the hours trickle by.

I seem to remember some talk of this being a regular (monthly?) event. The last event was about a month ago (Oct 10), so maybe we can flesh out a new theme and firm up some dates over the next week to two weeks?

I wish I could contribute leadership to the discussion but I think the best I can do with limited free time is participate when the competition comes around. Hope this generates some interest like last time! :)

Hey ImprisonedPride, will the site allow uploading of the swf files too, or will we have to find a file hosting service?

With respect to Flashkit, I'm keeping that here, unless people wanted to move it offsite, I have no problems hosting the files. I can basically set it up to run itself each month, and it can be discussed here.

well it would be nice to have some space where the files stay for a certain period.
If everyone uploads them to their own or free servers chances are high that some of them might disappear sometime and regarding that it would be nice to have 1 central server to store or host them.

Well then it's agreed, I'll make sure the arrangements are made so that files can be uploaded to the server.

Im going to start it next week, as the school holidays start for me so I have a bit of Spare time to run everything. :)

Actually the real hero behind it all is Matt Guest. No clue what ever happened to him, but he's still the guy who came up with the concept and then passed the deed onto me. Some say he's stuck in an infinite loop in FK's Fonts section...but I guess we'll never know......

As for hosting a competition, I'd prefer to sit this one out as it is close to the holidays and that's when that nasty final exams like to strike. Darn things are like vampires I tell ya(but not the cute ones from that Twilight movie). That being said, I'd be more than willing to work on something after the holidays. So I'll probably be doing a contest then if you guys don't mind. These things are like Rocky movies...they just never stop!

Pseudobot, you did a great job hosting the 7th comp, and I have confidence that you'll do the same hosting the 8th. The trend used to be that there would be one every year (hence the annual), but that never really happened. Sometimes there would be 2 in one year, and sometimes none. So what the heck, as long as there isn't one every other day, let's keep the name for legacy sake. Waddya think about that? So feel free to call it the 8th Annual 48 Hour Flashkit Competition, or even better, the "1st Annual 48 Hour Flashkit Holiday Bonanza". Choose wisely my son...

Let's just make sure that there are enough people willing to participate for this one. Holidays are indeed creeping up, and not everyone will be available. Then again, it could be the exact opposite as people will be clearing up more space in their schedule. Maybe make another thread asking for who's "IN" for the comp. Oh, and if a moderator gets mad cause you're making too many threads, tell him/her that Beatcow said it was ok. I just dusted off my old "Mods leave me alone" VIP pass that I used to use when hosting these competitions. We all remember how many threads I would create for those.:rolleyes:. dum dee dum...

Too bad I didn't know that there was a competition like this :( I extremely like Flash competitions...they're my favourite thing to do if I can find a decent one...

But, on the bright side, I'm in the same position as pseudobot, school holidays! So, hopefully I'll catch it in time!

I think that it's a really good idea to have a dedicated hoster for the comps, it should make it easier to view all of the submissions and the results, all packed away nicely in one spot...

I can also do a bit of work...if it's needed on the website? Small jobs, little Flash things, etc...
