I am going to have a 4 string for funky slappin&poppin (which I have now), a 5 string for gettin the low stuff, a 5 string fretless, and an acoustic bass.
And I still think there's nothing like the sound of an Ampeg SVT with a couple 8-10 cabs! One note and your're blown to the back of the room! HE HE :D
to avoid the expense, i had this great guitar guy i know take out the frets and inlay some nice wood - it worked beautifully, and now i have 'fret lines' which helps guitarists play with me. i have an acoustic too, but it isn't nearly as fun as when i'm plugged in. i don't do the 10 inch speakers (although i should) - i play through a 15 inch with an 18 inch subwoofer (SWR). when you stand in front of it, it blows your clothes around like you're in a tornado :D:D it's thick and muddy, but that's how i like it:)
