man. call me dense... but all of this 1D, 2D, 3D stuff was covered in my 10th grade Physics class.
simply put:
- 1D = a point. only an X, Y, or Z. not a combination thereof.
2D = coordinate. you can locate it via X, Y, and/or Z, a combination of two only, on a map/coordinate system.
3D = object. you can find the exact location of something given it's X, Y, and Z location.
4D = object at a point of time. oft called a referenced instance, it's where an object can have it's X, Y, and Z charted in reference to a timeline.
I've been patient.
I don't see an illusion. I don't see where the flash movie proved anything. If you can just distance, that means that you can place an X and Y value on something, and the distance = Z. Therefore, 3D. the only illusion you have yet to conquer, or disprove to me, is depth perception. In 2D, true 2D, there is either no depth (Z), no height (Y), or no length (X).

Existence is the state of energy. When the energy goes, existence will go, live is another form of existence, like a rock exists therefor it is alive.
If its energy were not to exists it would not be here in the form of a rock. Human DNA is a chemical bundle of instruction. These instructions go to work to replicate themselves converting energy to make the visible form of life this could be animal or plant. This new form as with all matter can only be seen when bathed in radiation (light), that is to say that its natural state is colourless. Our colour and objects colour is determined by the oscillation frequency or the energy, white light is absorbed by this energy and reflects back the frequency of light that corresponds to the energies oscillations which is detected by the human eye. Seriously? That's exactly what I'm doing here. You're stuck in this "illusion", and I can't even use math to prove it. I have to use explainations that... well, would make sense to like my nieces.
You say illusion. I say lack of depth perception.
Fine. A point. It's a 1 dimensional instance that exists without any depth, or height. It's explainable only with one variable. The same variables that I've been using the whole time. X, Y, or Z.
And we're talking about in the natural universe. Not your browser. Not your monitor. But something you can experience in the real world.
A 2D object. Imagine you have some graph paper. You label a typical 5th grade type of X, Y coordinate system. You place something at (3, 4). That means you go 3 over, 4 up. It can be described by it's 2D locator, the X and Y coordinates. With it having only 2 coordinates, that's all you can view. Nothing else. It has zero depth. That's all you will see. Just a dot at 3x and 4y.
Now. Imagine that you can describe another coordinate. it's no longer flat. It has a volume now. Guess what... it's 3D if you use the Z coordinate. So, now, you have something that has faces, edges, and a volume. It's no longer a point. It's no longer a simple object. It's a solid.
Now. Your perception. Let's go into Biology now. Your cones and rods within your eyes not only measure the perceived distance, or Z coordinate, between you and something else, it also measures color variations, perceivable differences from different points within that volume that you're observing, and your brain collects this data, and perceives a 3D object thus allowing you to approximate the distance between you and it... so in this instance, to catch it. In a 2D world, you'd NEVER be able to gauge the distance. You'd always be lacking the ever important 3rd distance.
If it was a 1D world, then everything would lack not only depth, but everything would be minute specks of dust. You'd have zero ability to guage width, height, or depth. Only one would exist. which one though? You can only describe it with one. Just one.
Ok... atoms. Current theory is that electrons travel around a nucleus. Around being the key word. They orbit the neutrons and protons and produce what's called an electron cloud. But, that's mostly due to the perception of them going so fast. In order to go around an object, you must be first able to state that it has a width, height, and most importantly a depth. They orbit the volume of the nucleus in very much the same manner as the planets circle the sun.
So, Mr. Illusion. Are you saying that the world is flat?

X, Y, Z axis, 2D, 3D is just humans way to break apart space so that it can be easier to digest, just as hour, minute, second, past, present, future etc etc. are used to break apart time...
they don't really have any meaning since time and space are all abstract concept... noone can really explain the exact definition... not yet or maybe never... who knows...
in the mean time i take it for granted that the space is broken into 3 dimension (x,y and z) and there is past present and future...

The whole living inside a machine thoughts are hundreds of years old theories that they abandoned in the romantic age when ppl realized that the universe is to damn kaotic to be completly described in mathematics. by the way time does NOT exist.
