Iopred, your Particles System proved to be far faster than even the BitmapData buffer:

:) Goes about 9 fps faster than the buffered one when in the browser. Possibly more. 1,000 troops runs at 4 fps in standalone player, and 100 troops runs at pretty much constant 31 fps (sometimes dropping a fraction of an fps, but that's negligible).
