I'm starting to think Sony should be brought up on charges for inciting riots.
Can you really blame them? I mean... every time a concert is charged with that - well, the band - that case is usually thrown out.
I blame the stores for not letting them sit inside!
I suppose not. But somewhere there's gross negligence. The f*ck-tard at wal-mart who decided to play death race or the malls who failed to provide security in the parking lots. Kinda puts a stain on the whole launch.
I can't believe people are willing to spend 10k on a PS3, sorry but that is just completely idiotic.
It's no more ridiculous than a crack addict paying a lot for their "fix." Same deal with these guys / gals. They have something wrong in their heads. I'm not going to say it's a bad console (OK, I will), but certainly not worth $3-10,000. Not at all.
They need a serious intervention, though imagining them a week from now when they realize they just blew $10000 on something they can now get for MSRP makes me smile. :D
Sheer madness!!!

Haha. :D Though, if you read the fine print, it says "seller ended auction early." so someone must have offered him the $1250 buy it now price he was after. It's kind of shady because there's no buyer protection when it's behind the scenes like that, but the seller does it that way so he doesn't have to pay the percentage on the higher buy it now price. He only has to pay a commission on the $9.
$100 xbox 360!

Damn wannabe, keep it on the down low, I'm actually gonna try to get one.
Prepare for new riots next week (Sony does them weekly now :p ): http://www.cbc.ca/technology/story/2...ge-061117.html

"We are getting a second shipment next week, probably around the middle of next week," Matt Levitan , marketing and public relations manager for Sony Computer Entertainment of Canada, told CBC News Online on Friday. "We'll know by Monday or Tuesday when they will be available.
"We are flying in shipments from Japan and China, and will probably ship them directly to retail" instead of to Sony's warehouses, he said.
Levitan expects four or five shipments before the end of the calendar year, estimating each batch will be the equivalent of a quarter of the units available at launch.
Wow... flying them in?
Platform Sales TotalSad... the PS3 did in one day of sales what the 360 did all year basically. And the DS Lite is killing the PSP sales.
DS Lite 148,174 5,625,283
PlayStation 3 81,639 81,639
PSP 19,123 1,492,596
PlayStation 2 16,157 1,232,921
Xbox 360 3,864 95,393

Can't be bothered to find the article again. But did anyone read/hear about that guy that signed a contract to never purchase or own a PS3 EVER in his entire life for a $7500 VooDoo gaming rig? I think I would of done it too and just made my wife buy one :)
Looks like it's continuing on... the PS3 inspired madness. A couple of Gamestop employees also got caught saying they were robbed when they weren't and the 4 PS3's have yet to be recovered and they're looking at big charges.Quote:
While selling a PS3 soon after launch day probably paid some hefty dividends for those lucky enough to secure one, pistol-whipping someone in order to make it happen probably isn't worth the trouble. Apparently a cash-strapped (or completely crazed) Massachusetts duo couldn't quite weigh the consequences before taking action, and are now under arrest for "attempted murder and robbery." One gunman, William J. Robertson, is already being held under a $1 million (or about 600 to 700 properly eBayed PlayStation 3s, whichever you prefer) bond, while his 17-year old partner in attempted larceny remains "on the loose." While we knew the PS3 launch would potentially bring out the worst in people, unloading ammunition to get your game (or profiteering) on is just taking things a bit too far -- so while camping out weeks in advance for a next generation console may surely pay off in the short-term, we'd say pulling a criminal stunt to get one probably won't.
Sales dropping off... seems like it's about the games after all.Quote:
Sales of the PlayStation 3 in Japan fell by almost half in the first full week of availability, and low shipments are being blamed for the lackluster sales, say gaming company Enterbrain. The site had estimated that 88,400 consoles sold in the first two days of launch, but from November 13 to 18 only 43,378 sold. Sony will not comment on the report, but said it was continuously shipping new consoles.
Data for the US is not yet available, although it is likely that sales will follow a similar pattern. At issue is the Blu-ray disc drive within the console. Sony hasn't been able to procure the blue laser diodes needed, among a host of other manufacturing difficulties. The problems are also affecting game sales; PS3's highest-ranking title in Japan was Ridge Racer 7, coming in at #29.
Now maybe they'll drop the price in the US to Japan's price.
I actually got my hands on a PS3 the other day. Bleh. Nothing special AT ALL. The controller is the same minus the shock feature(which I knew but was hoping for something different). The games were pretty bad too. They had COD3 in there and it was hooked up to a Sony HD lcd and it was SO jaggy I almost didn't want to play it. I only played it for about 10 minutes and then moved onto Motorstorm. That game was decent game play wise but it didn't seem like anything next gen. I know these are all release titles and that once the companies have more time with the system they will program better games and really take advantage of the specs but right now if I had to chose I would pick up a 360 for mature gaming and the Wii for some fun and wait at least 1-2 years for Sony to get their ass in gear.
Ive got a question for gamers everywhere.
WHO IS GOING TO PAY $600 DOLLARS FOR THE PS3?
THERE ISNT ANYTHING THAT GREAT ABOUT IT.
:yarr:
We all paid over $1200 for ours. Where have you been. It's the bees knees.
holy wow.
how could you pay $1200.00 dollars for any kind of game console.
- :smoov:
Threads merged. In the future, please use the search feature.
I can't leave the grounds so I have to ebay everything I own. $1200 is the price I have to pay for that.
**** that. come January it'll be found more easily. and honestly? Not one game has kept my attention on that system - been playing it almost daily for the last week.
bleh. it's all about the games. and even the Wii's not keeping my attention.
Hell, even Microsoft's slipping with the XB360. Gears of War was the biggest release I've heard of lately, and they're the company with no excuse for why they shouldn't have any promising releases for the holiday season.
This generation banked too much on the "look what I can do," and not enough on the "this is what I should be doing to appease consumers."
^ I've been saying that this entire time.
XBOX360 needs a 100.00 price drop.
are you kidding me 1200!?!?!?! just so you can have something 3 months early, wow but ive never been a big video game fan.
I doubt that even with a price drop, it'd help that much. This whole generation just seems to mediocre at best, and not just performance-wise. The marketing didn't make any sense at all. Nintendo's just now ramping up its TV ads and they don't even have any consoles to sell. It's like they weren't sure whether or not they were even going to sell it until the last minute.
Aside from that, this generation doesn't have the wow factor every generation before it brought. With the SNES / Genesis we were getting incredible sound quality / improved color depths, with the Playstation / Saturn / N64, we were being introduced to 3D gaming, and with the 128-bit generation, we were given online gaming, mass internal storage, and the ability to watch movies (yes, Dreamcast too with the VCD player.).
This generation is more of a filler to hold gamers off until the next big revolution in gaming occurs, much like Sega's 32x / Sega CD was. Anyone with an ounce of wit realizes that the games being released for the 128-bit generation are sufficient. Developers are comfortable with the systems and actually releasing fairly good games.
Additionally, Blu-ray is still in its infancy, and there's not really a push towards the Blu-ray format as there was for DVD. As most know, the problem with Blu-ray is that it's a high definition format, and in addition to the player, you're going to need an HD television to get the most out of it, so a PS3 isn't the one stop shopping item the PS2 was.
I don't think there's really anything this generation can do to improve its standing. I was never completely thrilled with the Wiimote, XB360 was always a WTF and a disappointed head shake, and the PS3, a crash course in voracity.
I think I said almost exactly that in the form of a prediction upon the first next-gen specs.Quote:

I have a friend that bought 2 PS3 20gb consoles, planning to sell one and thinking he was going to get all rich. He first tried selling it on Ebay for over 1k, no dice. Then he offered to sell it to all of us for like $800 LOL. Now he's not going to make squat on Ebay because of Ebay's fees and he's trying to dump it on Craig's List to no avail. Can't say I feel sorry for him that his plan to rip people off hasn't succeeded.
I agree with Genesis, I haven't played the Wii, but it does seem as if the whole "next gen" is just mediocre. As far as I'm concerned, the 360 has maybe 3 games that have the "wow factor". Most others are just crap and look like quick ports from the regular Xbox.
What gets me the most is that so many "next gen" games actually have LESS features than their current gen counterparts. Take Madden 07 for example, (or any other EA sports game). For the Xbox and Xbox 360, it's pretty much the same game, except on the 360 there is no owner mode and no fantasy draft. Why??? It seems easy enough to put in, but they leave it out. Makes no sense to me. I find myself going back to my old Xbox and playing NFL 2k5.
Well, what may seem like something simply can actually (and quite astonishingly) cost a developer hundreds of thousands, if not millions of dollars, especially for some of the big names in the industry (like EA). Right now the costs of development for developers is astronomical with licensing and development kits costs. The price hike in the cost of the actual game helps a little, but developers are still going to look for ways to curb costs, and cutting features is one of their favorites.
Game development today gets the same treatment that was once reserved for movie production.
I see what you are saying but in this case I don't buy it, if something as simple as a fantasy draft feature can be added to the current gen Xbox version, I don't see why it can't be added to the next gen, unless they are just being lazy (which very well may be the case for EA and it's NFL games since they own the NFL licence now and have virtually no competition). I would think they would be able to use the same code for several of the feature they left out.
dude... EA and lazy in the same sentence... that's their style.
EA is a very lazy group... they have to go out and buy innovation. They're the Microsoft of gaming. Every year, the same ol' crap, slap on a new label, and people buy it like mad.
I agree, they also always add in one completely useless feature every year which is promoted as "the next big thing" in the franchise, then it usually gets scrapped the next year, in favor of the next great useless feature.Quote:

I think they give it a suboptimal score because the online feature isn't in (will come with the NA and Europe version).

Oh? Now I didn't know that... cool.
This Famitsu guys can't be taken serious anymore anyway. They gave Gundam, a game everyone is telling that it's by far the worst JP PS3 launch game a better score than Motorstorm, a game where everyone is saying that it's by far the best game out now in Japan. Somehow this mag completely lost it.
