I can guarantee you that Reagan or Nixon would not have the legacy they do if they acted like Bush.
Also, If I remember correctly, the last poll results I saw on this very topic were that almost 60% of all Americans agreed with sitting down to talk with Iran, and almost half of all Republicans agreed as well, so it doesn't look like spinning or changing his position would be a wise move.
