When is Macromedia also going to address all of the other user issues and headaches with this beta-MX in a bug patch for the MX tool?
I'm sure thousands of flashers are waiting to know this. When will MX be fixed? What's a release date for an MX patch/upgrade?

Can you exactly give a way how to update exciting player with the new one. i follow up that link there is a something like CODEBASE tag doin a something for updating a player but there is no fully procedure on how to do that.
Having a one more query. how much swf file is secure beceause i am creating one kind of component will eaily integrate php to flash and for that i have doubt on security beceause today so many swf extracter and actionscript viewer avaialable.
so i little bit confused on it ?
one more thing as far as on the recursive functions in flash. flash player give me an error that i can not call a recursive function more then 256 times...so why is like that..have any technical reason behind this. please explain .

Or the bug is really hard to fix or they found some other bugs and fix that also.
i don't think that Microsoft have anything to do with this, and if so, then it will be nothing new to expect form microsoft with all the security updates for windows 2000 and xp :)
All right, I think this thread has gone way out of hand. First of all, the new player has not been released yet, so you can stop asking Mike for a way to detect the new player. When it will be updated, we will have access to very specific instructions on how to force an install of the new player.
Secondly, we are focusing on the streaming bug here, not on the authoring tool. If the authoring environment is to be updated, then we will all be noticed. We just have to wait and see.
Finally, stop asking Mike off-topic questions. He has much better things to do then to respond to «I haven't read the thread, but can you please tell me what's going on?» and «I'm a half-brained idiot and I'm trying to do something I've never done before, without looking at the documentation and it doesn't work, is this a bug?» type questions. Give him a break.

We have released a new version of the Macromedia Flash Player 6 for all web platforms.
The new player is 6,0,29,0 and is available from:

The new player fixes the following issues:
1. Interrupting of loading media into player does not halt, rather queues and loads entire file.
2. LoadSound continues to download even though the object is stopped, unloaded, or deleted
3. When an event sound is playing and the sound object gets deleted, the sound still plays even though there are no more references to the sound object.
4. Large Media (video, MP3) causes Flash Player to lock up.

thought I'd repost my code to sniff for a minor version from the flashplayer using getVersion()
obviously needs flashplayer 5 + to work

still have a streaming problem with 6.0.29.0
now works if streaming into same swf and stops when swf unloaded...great
but....
i pop open a child html window containing swf that loads/streams into it the streaming content swf (audio or video).
when you close the child windows for each presentation but remain in the site(if it hasnt finished downloading)...it overloads still...will only let me open 2 child windows then its all jammed up...and i have to exit site.
works fine on win netscape6 and on all mac browsers...
i know i have cheap web space with low bandwidth.....but even so....
im confused!....seems to jam up the server end.....
whats going on!!!!!!?

I had a struggle to get it going too, it didn't want to update.
try rebooting.
I hate that someone (a viewer) might have to shut down and restart to see my work, but.....

it is an ActiveX issue not a flash issue.

well, i did rebooted my computer as instructed. however after rebooting, i went to check the flash.ocx file in the system32 folder, it still shows the version as r23.
is this the correct way to check which version the flash plugin player is? how can i make sure the latest version gets downloaded and used?
I checked out..its working fine with the streaming media. you need a restart for it.
