RollCanvas v2.0 :: Blind Tennis (Complete)

I think there should be a newbie RollCanvas.
Let the people that were afraid to join because of their skill level have a go at it.

Here's so an intersing idea I had.

A more complex version blind tennis that will lend itself to some very creative images.
We could call it a "Double Blind Tennis" or something.

The match would run the same way as we did here as far as only posting the last 150 pixels, but thats where it ends.

Image size would be 600x650 or 600x800
Each volley would be done by a 3 person team.
The image would be split into 3 200 pixel horizontal pieces.
The first person would create a 200x650 pixel center image.
This piece would be given to the other two team members who would then create the top and bottom portions of the image at the same time, thus being somewhat blind to what the other is doing.

When the team is completed, the last 150 pixels would be given to the next team.

This to me sounds like a blast.
Anyone have any comments on this idea?

Thanks for the comments on my image everyone...i didn't think it was that special. I really wish that i had done a better tranisition though, some of you have really done a great job with some of the hardest transisitions.

I don't want to go into too much detail on peoples images as i agree with many of the opinions already stated, but i will say:

The most suprising image from the 150px peak is 3Primates

Most Sureal: Nordberg

3Primates - love the way you incorporated that shield of Medusa into the image. Excellent touch.

Gerb - I knew you'd perform as I expected. You are in all respects the master of detail.

Clicky - good job on the retro feel, please tell me where you get your stock images from!

Squidlips - your volley made me think of Fatboy Slim for some reason, which is definitely not bad.

TheWaste - jaw-dropping work. Nothing more to say, I'm speachless.

If there would be a next version of this mural, count me in for sure!

I can't believe that this thread went away so quickly for how long it took this to be completed.

(of course i have to say that March/April/May Madness isn't finished yet, which suprises me)

I sent the link around to a bunch of my friends and they all loved it. Some even want to do one of their own now.

We did one here at work. Everybody loved it, now we're doing one a week based on a theme, and each weeks theme will start off of the last weeks image...so it will be one giganticly long image.

Thats a really cool idea. Definatly post that link. Something like that could make for a good open battle like the "Everybody was Kung Fu Fighting" one. (although its still to early to start another one of these)

Right now we've gone through about 10 images, and they're hosted on our network so they arent viewable on the outside...we're planning on creating a mini site to host them soon, so when that's up, i'll post the link.

I think an Open Roll Canvas is a great idea...

I suggested the method of doing it earlier on in the thread, during the time I was frustrated with people not putting up their volleys...

Basically its the same style as before, only insted of waiting til the end before we see the whole thing, we just leave one invisible image between the last image done and the next person doing an image, so people still wont know what the transition is... for example:

round1. Someone makes first image, posts last 150px...
round2. Someone makes second image, posts last 150px... previous image is fully revealed.
round3. Someone makes third image, posts last 150px... previous image is fully revealed.
round4. Someone makes forth image, posts last 150px... previous image is fully revealed.
round5. Etc...

And it doesnt have to need a host, and it can go on forever.

One rule that people may find hard to keep using, is make sure you call that you are next in line, before actually starting, otherwise two people may put up volleys at the same time... which could cause some conflicts...

And because of that rule, the waiting-a-week-for-someone-to-post will never happen, because if people call for a shot whenever they want to do it, the max wait time will be only an hour or so (depending on how long a volley takes to make... could be a half day... i dont know...)

to understand the rollcanvas(es), just check out the first pages of the rollcanvas threads.

I dont know why EV called you though. I already know we can make this work. I think EV just wanted you in to join the fun... and prehaps get your opinion on how possible this thing is... for.. some... reason?

Maybe he wants me to write a little web application that manages the process of reserving and posting the next volley for a specific time and than give that slot free if the volley was not posted. So basicaly you could make the process like this:

1. First image and a theme will be posted
2. Someone accepts to do the volley to that pic
3. While he is doing the pic, the slot can't be taken by someone else
4. He posts his volley in time and the next slot will be open for an other volley or the time runs out and the current slot can be taken by an other one

You could even add an other step where an admin validates submitted images so that pics not acceptable will not get posted at all and the slot get's available again for other volleys.

whats wrong with the good ol' someone posts when they wanna make a volley, and once hes done, he says he's clear on the board.

it would be great to have a web app... but theres no need to come up with a technical solution to a problem that isnt too hard to work around...

That's nice, but ...

- It would only be about a week of work for me
- It would be an interesting project
- It would make new things possible like comments for each image in a canvas and it would be more transparent for participants, maybe a smaller navigation canvas using thumbnails while having an infinite canvas
- I was thinking about a photoshop tennis app earlier, but I decided to do one of my other ideas
- I would finaly make a volley as well ;)

Sounds like an awesome idea to me. It would be sweet to have a web app that would handle all of the organization, and Subby is the man to do that. Plus, we'd get to see Subways photoshop skills....whether that's a good thing or a bad thing i do not know. ;)
