I have changed the title wouter, it is not just you. Please don't feel that way, it is a number of people of late but you have been one of the main perpertratrors. With that post yesterday though, some weren't happy. I understand everyones need to relax and let off steam but lets split the two, post tubbish in threads for rubbish. Some threads in the lounge are serious, lets keep them that way.

Another "Please keep yourself to the rules" thread.
There has been so many this year im wondering if there is anyone that does care about the rules.
The weirdest part of these kind of threads is the "hypocritical" part of it.
Its the same people who spammed the board that are now saying we shouldnt.
Its allways the same people that think postcount matters that say: "Postcount doesnt matter".
Its allways been that way and its both pretty amusing and friggin annoying.

What i think of this?
I think oneliners could be pretty damn funny.
Spamming the board with them however not even near as funny as meant to be.

All has allready been said here and i just want to add: Before you post think of what you can contribute to the thread.

I agree with you that some threads are serious,lets keep it that way. But some threads, like Jezza's What should you get for my b-day, are ment to be funny, and to be nonsense. Jezza knew it was oing in that direction.

But serious threads should be kept serious. :)

Seems I've missed all the good stuff again...for what it's worth, I feel the lounge is a place where you can post all your pointless ramblings etc. By it's very nature, FK is a huge "organisation" 200,000 members of all ages and nationalities, I do sometimes forget that for a certain number of memebers, English is not their first language and sometimes, the oneliners are simply a result of the language barriers that sometimes occur.

It's a good community here and I personally do not mind seeing Wouter all over the boards, I'd have to admit to being shocked when I found out you (Wouter) were only 13. You are clearly an intelligent young man with a fairly amusing sense of humour.

I know others do it, I could occasionally be accused of it myself. The lounge though is a place where everyone chills and for general chat. If it was occurring in the help boards, maybe the issue would be a bit more "serious" but it's not as far as I've noticed.

I think some people do just go through phases where they reply to most topics, I have and I'm sure a lot of others have. It's not a bad thing.

What I do hate, and this is not really part of this rant, is the lack of research people do in general. I have seen countless threads in recent weeks of people asking for pictures of this and that or sounds or fonts etc and then I find myself searching for them myself so I can post the answer. These are the sorts of threads that should be examined, again, I don't mind helping. If I don't like a thread, I simply don't reply.

I post to talk to great friends i have made and hopefully make new ones ..i post to lighten up my crappy work day since they just gave me some help and he's about as smart as a box of rocks...i post because i enjoy it and enojoy joking with friends...i post to try and help others when i can ...i could give a damn less about post count and titles and status...i post becausethe bunnies make me...:D

I don't think it matters if answers are one word or not.

The idea of these board is to post and read interesting threads and points of few. think before you post - "is this interesting / useful / amusing or just posting for the sake of it."

I don't come to the lounge as often because I generally don't find any of the threads of interest to me, many threads are repeated several times over.

What do I care what computer you own / car you drive ? I'd rather help out on the other boards and maybe learn a thing or two

I really don't think it's your intention (and shame on me for trying to read minds), but you're coming across as someone who's a little overboard. (And when you're overboard is NOT a good time to throw your mod weight around--you just sink faster). Threatening to delete posts that are off topic in the cl is ludicrous. People are joking because this is an uncomfortable situation that the mods have created, and I am joking a bit, frankly because I am embarassed for you. This kid may be spamming, but you are responding just a little like a bully. Making a public specatacle of this kid was NOT "the next logical step" in solving a problem. It NEVER had to be made public. I am not saying you didn't have every right to deal with it, but not this way. TOTALLY unnecessary. (BTW changing the title to ALL MEMBERS READ THIS did not protect his identity--it probably drew more attention to this thread). And it doesn't matter who started the thread or who said what at this point. All the mods seem to be in agreement on how to handle this in general. This kid spammed (a no-no, I take it?) so you flame the heck out of him (okay when a mod starts it, i guess?). And just because you think you can justify your actions and didn't call him ugly names doesn't make it any less flame-ful.

THE MODS HERE DO A GREAT JOB!!! I just totally disagree on this one--not about the spam, but how you handled it. And since this is a public forum.

As I sit here typing (with perfect posture), sipping my coffee (pinkie finger extended and using a coaster), I wonder (not aloud so I don't disturb anyone near me), "have I typed enough lines? Will this post be deleted because I made a mod angry? Will my count be reduced to zero? Do I care? (Maybe when I was twelve)" Tune in next time when we find out in another exciting episode of "The Coffee Lounge".

Heres my take, its short and simple .

1)If there is a problem with a user an email should be sent. If youre a problem user who got an email, you need to reply.

2) If problem user fails to acknowledge emails then going public is second option.

So if a Mod emails you about something youre doing you need to let them know you got it and will comply so they dont have to do a public announcement to get your attention. I see nothing wrong with the way razor and the other mods handled this.

Second, one liners, and jokes are ok, but when a thread is taken over by such crap noone wants to reply even if it is on the topic so it basically dies. I would post a thread of mine as a prime example but i will spare the offenders names. You post a somewhat serious thread and come back and its on page 2 with 10 quotes in a row of two members taking jabbs at eachother and other members is just uncalled for. In a thread where it started off silly and as a joke is one thing, but becoming a virus, latching on to one post, multiplying untill the original topic is dead is uncool.

I have also noticed that I have to go to the second or third page some days to see a thread I was looking for that was on the first page the night before. Whether it be a thread i started or not. Thats what posting to every freaking thread in the forums does. Noone can have something to say about every topic in here and if you do, wouldnt a chat room be better?

try talkcity or something.

this is my opinion on the topic itself and addressed to everyone not just wouter.

I also agree with david, there are times I wish the thread originators could delete any reply within their own thread to help keep it on topic at times.

Well for starters Im sorry to hear that you feel that we're not doing a good job here afterall . I wont go through the usual 'we re here in our own free time ..blah blah' but this thread has brought up more than one issue and Im glad that youre all here feeding back to us .

I personally dont think this thread was aimed at ridiculing wouter or making him a 'public spectacle' as you put it !
He was basically told what wa sin the email that was sent to him a few days back and it was an attempt to ask him to ease off a bit . Its been done before - Mods email first if they dont get a repsonse they post in the lounge ,but moreover saying to somebody in here to cool off a bit is not offencive . Everybody goes on a posting spree from time to time and what normally happens is they get a reminder or from a member here or a mod asking them to take it easy .On most occasions we get members emailing us saying theres a spammer in the boards and asking us to take action.

I m not talking about the length of posts here - im talking about butting in every single convo and answering EVERY single post in EVERY thread with 'oh yeah ' , 'cool', 'yep' etc ... :(


As to your ref to David 's post ill just have to go back to what ive said a while back about this place : its a diverse, vibrant and multicultural community - what is right and funny or no big deal to you - could well be wrong, tasteless and important to me and thats how it is in everyday life out there.

David made a ref about the usernames cos a member recently contacted us and pointed this to us . its a topic we've been discussing and David refered to it on behalf of all the MOds and Im glad he took the opportunity to do here since this thread has proved useful to raise issues like that , and again it just goes to show that it want intended to humilitate anyone in particular!

Thanks again for the feedback - we're listening and we do want to make sure this is a cool place to come in and chill and talk to your friends .

i agree with Aria.....i don't think the thread had the intention of ridiculing wouter or using him as a punching bag of any sort....cos if i was....then i'm in the wrong board ;). It's what a majority of us felt here and i'm glad the mods did the right thing by emailing at first. If there was any reply or had wouter chose to cut down on his posting...i'm sure this thread wouldn't have showed up.:)
abut the point on picking out wouter specifically...i guess there are other spammers on the board ...but i'm sorry to say this myelf...but wouter had gone a lil too overboard which was noticeable enough by many.

But i think he's understood as to why he's been told to stop from posting to much and for a 13 year old...i'm surprised at his maturity at the way he replied. :)

and coming to the name calling thing. at first i thought like 'what the heck is he coming to??" and thought yeah i don't see why people shouldn't be told to address others in a more freindly manner. I wouldn't mind at ALL wheni'm call Axe or axy boy an all ;)
but i guess there are some names which are more insulting and it should be stopped. :)

Your understanding of flaming is obviously a bit different to mine.

My reason for bringing up the names issue was to try and divert the thread from a 'lets bash wouter' thread to something a bit more generalised. Sorry if you didn't get that, I was trying to defuse a situation.

this has been a problem for quite some time, and i'm with the mods on this one, something needs to be pointed out. Yes the coffee lounge is for chatting, and shouldn't be moderated to a huge extent but in real life, who has a conversation with "yep" "that's it", they are just useless posts that degrade the person who posted it and are usually only for the intention of increasing the postcount.

wouter was used as an example, not punching bag. You can't make these kinds of claims without having an example, wouter was unfortunate enough to be one of the guilty ones at this time so was used as exhibit A in this.

don't give the mods a hard time, unless they have done something genuinely wrong then point it out to them via email. This had to be publicly anounced, not to embarrass wouter but to let others know that it isn't appropriate on FK, it may be the coffee lounge but that doesn't mean that the quality of posts has to reduce to 0

I did get an emial from Nigma, saying I should stop posting to all threads. I did, I now only post when i see need to.

I also replied to Nigma's email, saying I agreed with him and I would mind my posting. I now almost always have Nigma's email in my thoughts when I reply. I first think if the post is nessecary, if it's funny, if it's not too hilarious (I know if Jezza laughes too hard, he loses even more hair :eek: :p). I really believe I changed, but still i know some of the mods think I post spam. I do not like that, but i can see what they mean.

I'll try to think even more when i post, and I will consider twice before hitting the button.

As far as my position in this matter is concerned, however, (by the way, this is where the post is no longer directed at only David) I have not changed my mind.

I still think several people here need to lighten up (advice given to me by mods some time ago when I made a disgruntled post--now I give it back).

And I still think that public flogging was a bit harsh. I appreciate what you were trying to do for the community and I know they didn't give you a rule book when they make you a mod. I know you guys wouldn't have done it if you didn't feel it was the best thing to do. I just happen to disagree -- in Salem, Mass., USA not that long ago in the big scheme of things, people were tortured to death when they were accused of being a witch--and nobody doubted that they were right about what they were doing. Judge Hawthorne ordered the torture and the town stood behind his decision. Nobody dared speak out against him for fear of being the next accused and the town turning on him. My point is not that this is a witch hunt--rather it is that no matter how just you feel in your actions and no matter how many people pat you on the back--that does not make you right. Sometimes, it just makes you a mob.

So, I take it nobody here feels like there was any other effective option, eh? I know that you already had e-mailed him, but that doesn't mean you had no other route than this. (Next time I warn my daughter not to do something, and she does it again--I DON'T plan to scold her in public. I'm smart enough to find plenty of other ways to get my point across without risking humiliating her.) I am glad Wouter came out of this relatively unscathed, but as some of you love to continue mentioning, some people take offense easier than others.....gee, no kidding? :)

fair enough. You put your point across well. I just felt that this was the next course of action. Everyone works differently, I don't doubt that some mods will agree with you and think that this should never have been posted, others will agree that it should, everyone works differently and something did have to be done. I made the decision to post it and the problem seems to have been rectified with a number of people. As long as no offense was taken on a personal level, thats fine by me. You can't go through life without standing on a few peoples feet.

David, i'm sorry if i jump in here because I've always respected what you've had to say, and I too do not wisjh to get you riled up, but Dainbramaged wasn't attributing these quotes to you just to everything which has occured within this thread. So, I have to suggest that you shouldn't get so worked up and blow your top like this, nor to start turning on Dainbramaged, with quotes like him doing a dismal job of mind reading, and telling him to get his facts straight. One could very well redirect these quotes back at you.

I personally feel that what Dainbramage has shared with us hits the proverbial nail right on the head, and appreciate seeing his posts as I consider him one of the more intelligent, and insightful (and, yes witty) voices here in FK, and certainly enjoy it when he's around.

What I have noticed here in my time at flashkit is that the younger members among us are generally those who speak/spam the most, as well as those you are most likely to take offence. At risk of becoming the next target I say:I'm talking about all of us, mods included. This is nothing unusual, it's the same with life in the 'real' world, as we mature we generally become calmer and perhaps more open, and not so ready to create a nuisance or take offence.
