there were probably quite a few useful threads if you were to delete them, how about archiving them all? like wh has done, that way you dont make members upset. i dont mind if it gets deleted though.
if a thread is archived then it still takes up the same amount of space in the db. Each thread has an identifier to tell the php where and when to bring it up.Quote:

only by deleting them will you actually clear any space out :)
if you archive them i suppose it will help the forum a little bit because you're not sorting through so many threads to find the right ones to display, but deletion is the cleanest option

Indeed this is not a true archive, and still has to search this data. I believe that these extra posts are not what is giving this forum a problem though, not enough of them to do so yet. I archived those posts because we had some table corruption in Mysql going on, so I pruned heavily (but only so the move of the rest of the threads would go easier), and moved the ones that members wanted to save. ;)Quote:

I don't know, never worked on it. :) I was just stating that I don't think the number of threads is the problem, not that I know what it is. I would guess jstarkey does though, because this forum is getting much better it seems, so that is cool. :)Quote:

It would probably be the add ons as you say w-h ... I've had a rethink about the deleting, I'd like to see the boards upgraded to the latest vbb as I'm sure the code has been tidied up on that release so it would be interesting to compare performance between versions, and then if there's no difference, delete the old posts :)Quote:
