Hey, maybe we have something in common. I am doing the same thing and trying to fiugre out how to speed the load time of the Flash video movie. I made the 55 meg video clip and interface a seprate movie. Problem is I put a preloader on it but it doesn't open until the whole movie is ready so the preloader just flashes, and then there's the clip, after a wating period of blank screen that I am trying to avoid. The other thing I don't understand is that I crunched the original video down to 15 megs, but flash sizes it back up to 55 megs when it exports it, so what's the point of doing all that compression?
Lastly, I thought I could find a way to preload the movie in the background while the user investigates the main interface, is there a way to do that that you know of?
Yes this is possible. It is called parking the movie. You need to have the video reside as it own seperate swf file. When you make that file you need to make it so the first frame of that movie is blank and has a stop action on it. Then in frame 2 you have the first frame of your movie. Then have another stop action one frame after your movie is done so that it wil not loop itself. Now that your swf is all set you need to play with how you get it to play from your main movie. In the very first frame of your main movie you need to load your movie into either a level or a movie clip. Since the first frame of the movie you're loading is blank you will not see it and there is a stop action on it so it won't be seen until you tell it otherwise. Now the button that tells flash to play your video will now tell the swf file to simply gotoAndPlay (2). Now your video will play and it will have been loaded ever since your project first came on screen.Quote:

How can you tell the swf with the video, that you have parked on frame 1, to gotoAndPlay(2)?Quote:

_level5.gotoAndPlay(2); // replace the 5 by your chosen level!
I beleive it is _level5.gotoAndPlay (2)
the # 5 represents whatever level # you are using I just used 5 as a place holder. Try that and if it doesn't work let me know and I will go and find the .fla that I did it in
Ha, beaten to the chase while typing.
Actually I would dispute that. Most of our customers left Flix for SV video. Flix has a good product but anybody that thinks it can compare to DV codecs, go and say that on a real video streaming site and be prepared to back it up.Quote:

Manta Productions simulated Flash video is of high enough quality that we were invited to appear on streamingmedia.com with execturive managers from Macromedia to discuss alternate use for flash. Our memory management software is now in use worldwide with top digital streaming media producers and out of 1000 viewers polled, 82% voted flash SV as good as good as DV.
Our next release soon to be out will also support mx and a few more goodies. So as far as no competition for Flix.... no your wrong. In flash video we are the standard to compare to and I welcome any challenger. I have already seen what Flix has to offer. Surf on over to our site and vew quality and versatility for yourself.

specifically
check out first the slide show, our home page, wait till the sixth pic so you can see how flexible SV is being integrated with a static bitmap.
then check out the ecommerce section- here we do a standard embed the video in the shopping cart trick.
The showcase has a few other examples and soon to come a full 17" screen video commercial streaming at less than 600kbps.

When I said,"The statement of 400% more options is a little much when those options don't get you 400% further. Yes Flix is the answer for version for Flash 3-5. There is no question or competition." I wasn't reffering to anything other than to the comparison between Flix and Sorensen Squeeze. At the time I was stating the fact that Squeeze was better when it came down to MX video but that it could only do video for MX not version 3-5 thus "There is no question or competition" between Flix and Squeeze when it comes to making Flash video for older versions of flash. I hope your product plug worked for you though. Hopefully with enough competition out there for Flash video all of our problems will be solved.
I understood your post just as I used it not as your comment implies. As far as a plug, I have been helping people out on these boards for awhile now on every issue not just video related... and always... point out every solution including Flix something I have not seen many others do. As far as the perfect solution, I hope for it as much as everyone else and i dont care if it comes from us, our business is production not software,Quote:

Just to clarify, Wildform is a software company and we sell licenses of our Flash video encoding software, Flix, for people who want to encode their own video – as opposed to hiring a service to create customized video.
Flix is designed to allows users to create excellent quality video and post it on the web in minutes. Users can encode their video at any bitrate, from 14k and up, with easy to use presets, in Wildform’s new higher quality MX (and FLV) format as well as the older Flash 3-5 video (and Flix’s Flash 3-5 video incorporates memory management, to eliminate ram issues). Additionally, Flix is the only software that will convert standard video into a vectorized swf.
We have free demos for both Windows and Mac available as well as numerous video samples, and a complete resource site to assist our customers in creating and deploying rich media applications.

isnt the 6x29x version supposed to resolve this issue of handling large video files
You work for the company... and you replied to a post, that you took out of context, inorder to say something about your product... I am sorry but your input is biased and your post just seemed like a plug to me. Atleast the guy from Flix posts comments about the software in relevant places.Quote:
