well it seems that code actually tries to send something as i get a popup with this error when i run the swf

i've sorted it, with bit of a work around. it seems that in order for POST to work you needed to put in
these for the php file to pick up the vars in all browsers, (that i've tested).PHP Code:$pass = $_POST["pass"];
$name = $_POST["name"];
$score = $_POST["score"];
I've attached a zip of the contents that i've been working on, nothing big, see the comments in the fla, i've also added a new php that just spits the flash data out and seperated the html layout data into a new file. anyway, hopefully you'll understand. you need to edit the _data.php as before to input with your vars.
what version of myql and php are you using cos the sruff i posted works fine with mysql 4.0.12 and php 4.3.0Quote:

you should be ok, but when i couldn't get it to work yesterday i upgraded my mysql from 3.2 to 4.0 and it worked, it might be independent of that but i wouldn't really know about that. have you tried the stuff i attached. because it should work fine
yeah i tried it, the send and load sucess function runs, as i get the success messages... but no scores are shown, and when i try and view the scores in the index.php i get the same error message...

hmm, the only thing i can think of is that you need to update your php or mysql. maybe perhaps you need to check your mysql tables exist. ??? because i get no errors at all,
hmmm, i take it you have to pay to update, and i am just a subdomainee of the host :S how do i check the tables exist ?? sorry, php/mySQL n00b here :cool:
well, online yes you probably would have to pay, or they might not do it untill they update their enitre sever. What you can do however is to install it on your machine's server. Depending on your host / machine you should have a control panel / admin centre to access your databases/ For example phpMyAdmin. When you run the install.php do you get the done message? or do you get errors?
w0000tor, the flash adds to the db, and its viewable in the index.php html, but doesnt load into flash :(

i guess then you don't need to update anything, just try reinstalling the tables, adjust your settings to the ones in the _data.php of my zip except your password.
ok, it loads into flash, but it caches, so i added a couple of scores, refreshed, then added more and it doesnt load the new ones into flash :S
it seems you took the url cache thing out of the fla, was that for any particular reason ?
ah no i forgot about that, it got removed when i was experimenting with GET, all my browsers don't store cache so i've forgot about it. does it work when you added it then?
for anticaching, use this function i picked up along the way

after the url to be called, then it assigns the number of milliseconds since 1970 jan 1st. a unique number all the time, better than random number generation.Code:

seems like it should have been simpler than it was... but its done now i suppose :) thankyou so much for helping me out... is there anything i can do in return?
any thoughts on managing scores etc? deleting entries and the like... any tests on how secure it is?

i don't know what to suggest apart from myabe be checking it in other browsers, maybe it's your browser that's fecking up the POST commands, this is a flash player error, and macromedia knows about it. have you tried updating your flash player ?

there is the worry of having to contain the password in the swf, but i had a thought you could use a php script to generate a scrambled password then include that in the swf, passing it through the decoder b4 passing it on the mysql access scripts. and as for the rest i'm still getting to grips with mysql, i pressume you could easily setup something to delete / replace records, although that's a bit beyond me, and as i'm only going to use this for a college project i can't really afford to spend the time researching as i've only got four weeks left till my show :eek: :eek: :eek: :eek: :eek: :eek:
but when i get time, i might create a component based on this that might preove usefull in the future.
as for doing something in return, no worries, just playing my part in a group project. I've created a script to give access to the top and bottom scores of the list, but due to my limited knowledge the primary and secondary score lists have to be the same :( .
it seems the hosting im using uses phpMyAdmin for the control panel anyway and i can edit/delete scores right through the cp too :) im assuming i can use multiple instances of this if i wanted several games running on the same db, right? ill certainly need to look into password obfuscating... i recall markp saying :eek: at having to include the mySQL db pass but its not that, its just a password created by php for adding scores (im sure u no that but for everyone else :))
