Wish I wasn't working with flash, then I'd get time to play with it.... :-D
been looking at some papervision and away3D examples, they run great however i get crashes at random times using the new player. But thats expected i guess with a beta.
specs:
(Work) Pentium D 3.0 Ghz, 1Gb Ram, Radeon 256Mb
(Home) AMD 64 2.0 Ghz, 1Gb Ram, nVidia 256Mb
both run at 30fps
PS: Does this mean the IDE will have an update so that EXE projectors also have the added benefit, or is it strictly for the browser plugin?
Ray - i guess they'll release an update for CS3. I predict at the same time they release the extension for AIR. Which, i might add, is looking and sounding very nice, i never used flex builder, i just dont like the MXML stuff, but i guess i'm gonna have to get into it. It keeps popping up in blogs all over the place.
I know this is getting off topic a tad, but do most use flex simply for the IDE or do you like the MXML stuff?
i use eclipse with flex plugin mostly (normally always doing AS projects)
the flex project specific special xml syntax is nice for RIA dev but yeah, not so much use for game dev (other than at most UI)
Best news I've heard all year.
HA3 runs almost at its limit now, actually playing faster in the browser than I wanted it to! (I bumped the fps to counter the 10% loss in IE)
Time to start milking this baby!
you're not the only one not to see improvements tony....for some reason I'm the same way.....
plasma test
IE 7
9.0.60 - fps 19min - 22max
AMD athlon 64 @2 ghz, 1gb ram, winXP sp2 (laptop)
it's kinda weird that i don't see the improvement people are talking about....I wonder if it's a video card thing.......
so does anyone have word on the availability of the standalone player update for this version?
paul.
Well well, I hope the power increase means that some more serious efforts will be made to create flush out all the crappy newsground rubbish made by 15 year olds and instead show us some Bubble Islands quality games.
This is it folks. Just like, a c64 style indie revolution all over again. In ten years they'll be talking about the folks that ruled the world of Flash games.
hey.... whats wrong with 15 year old flashers....... lol but im 16 and just now learning basics++
Going back a couple of posts, I'm the same as Tom, I use Flex within Eclipse purely to code as3.
I think the only difference ( From cs3 ) is that you use [embed] tags to get to your assets, aside from that it's pretty much the same as coding as3 in cs3 ( Oh, I think the compiler in flex isn't as up to date, I noticed I had to use the old this["method"] for some things, like getting the frameRate value ).
As to the speed differences, it's really weird. Possibly a graphics card issue rather than a processor one ?

Well there is a beta of that out as well :)Quote:

Re the non-improvements, read the comments on the beta features page. There apparently are issues when blending is used.
This update sounds really cool. Haven't worked with AS3 stuff but after hearing this I could possible give the trial a try.
Hey! :mad:Quote:

It's not perfect, just better.
