Hey, can anyone please performance test this swf? Im a little worried about teh particle effects... Thanks.
(Just shoot the blue things)
Oddly, I think your blue things slowed the game down more than the particles did. I let about three rounds sit on top of me to trigger a large explosion and the game began to lag considerably.
Ah the Sound FX section of flashkit, of course!
Thanks, found some good sounds.
I checked the .swf, I didn't see any slowdowns.
Thanks both of you, I'll make them a bit less accurate but faster.
:)
Xploder, any screenies to show yet?
oh what the hell! My project is on this, but I just noticed this right now. All of the programming is done but its probably too late to whip out some level design + graphics by tomorrow... aww mahn I would have so pwned this.
^Just do your best. :)
You can allwas add more levels later on, and maybe get sponsors for the game then.
hmm actually reading through the thread some more this prewritten thing might count as an "unfair advantage over other people"... but I only spent around 2 days on it, but it was a couple of weeks ago. Could I use it? I would need to modify it a lot to make it into the apocalypse theme... and it is highly possible that I won't get anything done at all by the deadline because there is a high chance I will be out of the house the whole day tomorrow..
Oh well i'll try ^^ I'm bored anyways.
No, screenies yet. I'm trying to figure out how the enemies should look like.
Ah, what the heck, gonna let the user draw his own enemies before the game starts ;) ;).
lol Xploder....
I have a mindblock.. can't figure out a way to connect the code i have right now with apocalypse... at least not a logical way... of course if we suspend logic that could be possible but then it wouldn't make sense.
The LHC thing is so original :( you is going to make a black hole after you get too many hits right? Since its apocalypse make it unfair anyways so if you kill too many a black hole also appears ;P
^My game (which will deffinetly not be completed by tomorrow, but at least I get it playable) works like this: Every 10-20ish seconds, a new wave of particles (I have 4 diffrent type, with diffrent AI) that you have to destroy (which also try to ram into you and destroy you that way) before the time is up, in which they are going to collide with other particles. The game gets harder and harder (thnaks to evil LHC scientists who bombard the LHC with more and deadlier particles :P). Eveentually you will fail, so the arth allways ends up being sucked in by a black hole. The end.
:P
yep I gots my ideas down to but am absolutely fuxed for graphics... can I just pull images from google images and not care about making it look good? T.T I have no time left to carefully create graphics.
^Sorry, but it should be your own work. And images from google/etc are only allowed in this competition if they are taken with a camera (no spritesheets, vector graphics, gifs, characters, etc that are not yours)
+The image should be released under a license such as GPL so you can use it without breaking any copyrights.
aww I'm probably going to pull out now. Don't have any graphics artists on short notice. meh
Just make something quick then, gameplay is what's probably most important anyway. I'll let you get a few images of google, as long as they don't make up everything graphical in the game. (Yes, Im bending rules heree, but there are only 3 people competing so...)
i might just end up making it for fun. After all I need to test my new engine anyways, while my partner whores away at kongregate badges (he said something like not going to do anything on the graphics for the project until he gets all his badges....)
Sigh, i finished my chores two hours back, and started on this, thinking atleast i will be able to make something to enter, but now my windows crashed and i have lost cs3 :( , i hope i can enter the next time! Anyway , heres a screenshot of what i made in the past two hours:-

very nice. I just woke up heh getting to work soon.
Looks like everyone else has way more time than me...I still need to scribble up enemies, make the bullet system work, simple AI's, and then make the level...
Plus the enormous task (which was going to be the focus of my project) of making cool lighting effects...but I'll have to pass on those maybe...
Well...I've got now up until 6:00, so...better get cracking...
Ok, I'm unvailing the first screenshot of my game.
What you do, is draw obstacles on the notepad to protect the red core in the middle. I spent a lot of time on analyzing drawing actions.
Stroke direction gives rotation (clockwise or counter-clockwise)
stroke durration gives speed. Obviously though, a bigger object is slower.
To do:
- Right now you can draw back and forth on one spot and get a very thin object, I'm gonna try to limit that before I submit it.
- It should instead recognize it as a split action when used on an enemy. Or a special scratch action to force the enemy to move around torn paper.
- Still need to add sound effects.
- Collapse obstacles on bullet hit or collision, replenishing ink.
- And lastly some Powerups, if I still have time.
