iliap and myself had a good time discussing the roots, the present and the the future of Flash and the NY flash community! Too bad there weren't more of us there!
Let's put together a bigger and better rendezvous for next week... ;)
okay, i'm totally game for next week. let me know via e-mail or via this thread when, where and what time.
t.
I wanna go next week, too. I've been tracking the developments on this thread for a couple weeks, but the Yanks were a priority. Now that the season's over I wanna do some serious flashin'. I'm around the corner from Halycon, but I'd be game for a Void thang, too. Long as everyone is on the same page, ya dig?
Did anybody attend the Macromedia seminar on 57th St on Thursday? Flash 5 looks very cool. Man, their whole product line looks outa sight! And it looks like Flash has arrived as the standard. Something like 96% of all browsers have the plug-in. Awww yea!
I am a new member of this flash thing and need some advice. I want to make an animated series of flash movies similar to the tim burton/david lynch thing going on at shockwave. The character drawings are done, and I need to get my old school pencil sketches into flash as close to the original as possible. How does one keep the integrity of the drawing with the most minimal amount of work. I would suppose I should scan them into photoshop, then import them into illustrator, then use the bezie tool and retrace them, then bring them into flash. This seems alot of steps/work. Has anyone used a digital pen/pad to trace them directly into flash. I don't have one so I don't know how that would work. I live down the street from void and would love to get together with someone anytime and talk about the finer points of flash animation.
Any resoponses are welcome.
P.S Is this flasher meeting going to happen at Void on wednesday the 8th
P.S.S I am posting this also as a new thread. Sorry so long
i like this idea ...
i am not us so i can't visit but i was wondering if there was like a yearly cometoghether of webdesigners...a serious cometogher.... if there was i'dd love to go!
(i have never been to a convention!!!)

Is there a flash meeting in NY this week? I noticed some construction or something going on at Halycon last night, but they still looked open.

I hope that the wednesday night at Void is still on, someone emailed me about joining a list to get info about what was going on this week. I haven't heard anything yet.Quote:

Patience, dear borax, patience.
No we will not be meeting at VOID tomorrow as once again they are booked for a private party. As a matter of fact, they will be booked for private parties for virtually every night until 2001. However, never fear, we are flexible and creative and we'll simply move our fun elsewhere when need be.
Tomorrow, we'll be meeting at another SoHo lounge named Recess, located at 310 Spring St. between Greenwich and Renwick Sts. Take the C or E train to Spring St. Let's plan to arrive between 8:30-9:30. If you have any questions about who or where the crew is, simply ask the bartender, who will be informed.
Look forward to seeing you all tomorrow night...
Tonight, 9pm.

Ask the bartender where the "Flash crew" is seated if it's not painfully obvious...
See everyone there!
On Mondays, Halcyon is always closed and doing some sort of filming or anything else that they do there when their closed.
Anyway, I live in the neighborhood of Halcyon and was really wondering if this thing is going to go off there this Thursday or everyone has given up on Halcyon for good and it will only be Wed. at Recess??

ahhh sooo :D
thanks
Thanks for an enjoyable and productive night at Recess.
It was good to see such a strong response. The New York flash community is burgeoning!
Next week, we'll be having a casual meet at VOID at 10pm on Wednesday. Talk, drink, exchange.
Thursday, we'll be meeting at Halcyon in Brooklyn for a slightly more productive meeting. We plan to set up a laptop and projector and tear into some .flas. So if you'd like to display your work, teach a technique, share some actionscript, or just boast, let me know so I'll know what to expect.
For all of you on the FutureFlash list, you'll be receiving the final information early next week.
For those of you who aren't on the FutureFlash list, but would like to be in the loop, send your email addy:

Halcyon sounds good. Thursday as in tonight, right? I'll bring some of my stuff. If I get a chance to display and talk about it, cool. Being a virgin to these meetings, I realize I might not get the chance, but I'm psyched to check out the flashin' scene.

Maybe you should join the list, MickMurd.

see you all next week

I look forward to seeing you all at VOID tomorrow night. They are hosting a private party until 10pm, so don't arrive before that...however, hopefully we can snag some leftover food and drink at 10pm sharp! See you there ;)
As for Halcyon, their schedule doesn't quite jive with our agenda this week, so there will be no meet at Halcyon on Thursday. However, we are set to GO on Wednesday the 29th at Halcyon. We will have full use of the projector and plan to do a full flash exchange/exhibition. Bring .flas to share, .swfs to show off, etc. Please, voice ideas, concerns, or questions now, so we can formulate a great turnout and a productive meet for the 29th...
Next Thursday is Thanksgiving, so I gotta figure nothing is happening then, right? And the week after that, the Halcyon meeting will be on Wednesday instead of Thursday, right? I'm game no matter what, but there seems to be some confusion.
Holy mackeral you are absolutely right, scratch my last post, i'll be stuffing myself with turkey on thursday. Oh circumstance, circumstance!
i went to void , there was the movie thingy but i found some cool people afterwards :P
damn i got home at 7am and went to work at 10:30 !
crap! im still tired!
it was fun im for sure going to brooklyn on the 29th!
see ya!
amd
hey, great times and great conversation!
a good meet all around...yo, tell me...what ended up happening to you fruitcakes? borax, infonaut, and amd; the Olive Tree and then?
i mean, you had about three hours to kill, until what...5:45?...what wonderous adventures befell you?
hope everything ran smoothly...look forward to chatting it up again and finally seeing those two .flas...
ciao....
well i got mugged walking to the subway then 3 gangsters kidnapped me ... (im writing this from palm pilot)
im currently stuck in a barrel somewhere in the east river :P
about those fla's ... want me to email them to you ?
or maybe teleport the disk to your hand>?
hehehe can you tell im in a weird mood ?
woohoo!

Tomorrow we will be gathering for chat, drink, and keyframes. For any greater-New Yorkers, come down to Halcyon in Brooklyn to boast .swfs, share .flas, teach and be taught. Our casual expo is NOT limited to flashers, so bring any cool or useful development for the web. Bring CD's or floppies or even your own laptop. We'll be wiring into a projector for display...
Halcyon is located on 227 Smith Street, Brooklyn. Take the F or G train to Bergen St. station and walk south on Smith. Halcyon is between Butler and Douglass Sts., on the east (left) side of the street. We'll be gathering around 9pm.
If you have any questions, ideas, concerns:

Good ol' Brooklyn, NY. Welcome to my house! I'll be there!
ummm so can i meat with ya or anyone in grand central so i dont go by my lonely self ?
please please please...
i'll bump into some raging lunatic whole drop kick my butt and i'll never make it...
:D
grand central? sure. drop a line.
Hey guys! Sorry to flizzow with your schedules! But this project is all about bringing people together, not splitting people apart, and thus, we're gonna make a strategic schedule change.
The Flash and Web Expo at Halcyon will be postponed one week, to Wednesday, December 6th.
For tomorrow, we're going to join forces with another crew at Sweet & Vicious. James Widegren and some other flash superstars are in town, and so we'll take advantage.
Sweet & Vicious is at 5 Spring St., between Bowery and Elizabeth. Take B, D, F, Q to Broadway-Lafayette St.
Those of you on the FutureFlash list, expect full details later tonight.
You're joking, right?
ok thats it! im for sure going to get beaten up by a gang of nuns or something...
where is this place?
ummm anyone for babysitting me to that place? errr i mean holding my hand... errr umm just FREAKING walking with me to that place? umm ill buy ya a beer :D
uhm, I'm sure my opinion is of little relevance but Halcyon sounded pretty good. Your probably (definately)bringing less people together by changing the plans(yet again). There are always going to be reasons to meet somewhere else.
so who are these people you were talking about drumatic?
James Widegren ? whos that?
who are the other people?
its all about tid bits ... ya know?
drumatic is highly skilled in giving the right amount of info... not too much ,not too little...
lol
MickMurd: no, I'm not joking.
St= z: Your opinion IS of relevance, and point taken. But nonetheless, it's not that Halcyon "sounded" pretty good, it "sounds" real good. Just a week later. And that's an extra week for you to prepare your .flas! ;)
Furthermore, we're trying to do one solid event weekly. Tomorrow night is going to be huge! The response has been amazing, and there are several gurus in from out of town. Flexibility is an asset, and in this case, it's strategic. The more creative Web Building individuals in one room, the more successful the project. First we're all there, then we're all here. It's never good to have two full-blown events drawing from the same population on the same night...
amd: You know the rap. :D There should be some very interesting dogs and cats there tomorrow. As far as holding your hand as we sneak past the nun brigade...you know I'd be happy to...maybe we'll meet The Evil Mika-El Vance beforehand? What time can you be NYC side? We're planning on starting early tomorrow...around 7pm. Let me know, cogno...
check out the icon
icon = you :D
yes! we can team up like the charlie's angels and do some martial arts stuff that would be cool!
but we have to practice so the gang of nuns dont get the upper hand ( they have been kung fu fighting for a long time)
anywys... just imagine the part in waynes world where at the end they do that twinkle tiwnkle twinkle thing like if you where in a second dimensions or something...
(i heard that!)
ok being that i have a deadline for a flash piece being all done for thursday... i might be in the office till about 6
after that maybe just maybe i can catch the 6:30 and be there at 7:30... sound good?
you have a cell # ? just in case?
[email protected]
ill be checking from work just in case...
thanx dude!
coño coño coño coño !
hehehe thats my favorite word :p
