Yeah, I didn't know what it was called! :)
Just uploaded the engine complete with all the bugs, but new tiles to:
http://www.mastersystem.org/beta/str...andedstan.html
:D
RipX
Yeh few bugs but still impressive, looks promising.
Ow and can you make it to the next platform ? I tried a few times and fell short :).
I don't think it's possible to make it to the next platform!!! I could be wrong though, cos you do get pretty close! It's obviously not yet an actual platform that's meant to be there?!? Looks a bit like a jigsaw! at the momment!!!
RipX
wow, that looks promising, RipX. i was waiting to see your demo running ^^
fospher.com, i wonder what you are preparing...?
Thanks guys, I guess I should start working on the bug fixes huh?
Updated the swf, should have got rid of most of the bugs, if anyone finds any please let me know, there's a stupid 1 pixel stagger caused by scrolling when you land after a jump. I know what is causing it, I'm just trying to work out how to fix it, but I do know about it! I haven't optimised the code yet either, but I may rewrite the entire engine including jumping code etc, before the alpha!

RipX :)
wow. looks interesting. i like the trippy tree and the cape is a nice touch.
do you plan on being able to fly ripx? I mean, with that cape, he's beginning to look like cape mario from super mario world :D t'would be awsome to have a game like that. I really should get back to my platform gaming roots :) BTW, nice images everyone, and Marmotte, tile based games are very, very easy once you get the hang of it.
Code:for(y=0;y<height;y++){
for(x=0;x<width;x++){
t=_root.attachMovie("tile","t_"+y+"_"+x,y*100+x);
t._x=x*16;
t._y=y*16;
}
}
I doubt I will make the character fly, I don't want it to appear like I directly copied mario or something! I will definatly be making the primary attack "jump forwards and headbutt the enemy" - that was decided from the beginning thus the crash helmit!
RipX :D
---- EDIT ----
Plus he's a wanna be super hero, he doesn't have any super hero skills at all!!
very small update, too bad i don't have the time to work a lot with it now...
> complete engine rewrite, it mixes art and tiles: the map is loaded like in a tile based game... my engine is supposed to be more flexible now ^^
> added jump ability, but... the animation is not done, plus no interaction with the platforms
note, graphics are way to be finished...
http://www.marmotte.levillage.org/_e...e/running.html
marmotte: switching to tile, ehhhh? nice game(coool grphx), i ran it at high quality, very smooth
rip: wow gary very original+well developed! are u gonna make him eat shrooms to grow larger, just like in mario? :p
the demo isnt quite ready yet, in a little bit, ill either shocase it here or start a new thread. as far as progress goes though, im a little ahead of u fellas...complete AI, full engine, most bugs squashed, sounds, 29/30 steady fps with 3 way parallax scrolling, graphics complete for the most part, and health/lives
...demo coming soon
http://www.fospher.com/quick.gif
*rubs hands feverishly.... alittle like the guy selling Michael Jackson all those urns in the documentry*
Looks AMAZING Fospher!
YEY! I can't wait! :D:D
P.S - As i said in another post, Marmotte, that looks amazin'!!!!!
yeah fospher .. looks great :)
well, not really. it doesn't appear in my open sources (simply because they target newbie++ people, so i decided to put the large map visually in front of them), but i always loaded my maps using tile based games method... when it comes with large areas, of course ^^Quote:
switching to tile, ehhhh?
The_Xell, thanks a lot! i'll improve it so much, and... well, i have to keep the motivation. drawing the sprites plus the areas plus the game concept plus the engine is not a one click task ^^
the playability will be shinobi 1-like. maybe i'll add weapons (swords...etc), but the shurikens are here no matter what happens!
i'm thinking of calling my game "little shinobi", but i don't know...
Fospher, can i ask a stupid question? :p
When doing your health (the heart) do you use _xscale to make it get smaller?:eek:
If i could trouble you so much as to ask for a snippet or some help with the code? :D :D :D PWWEASE! :D :D :D
What is this the Battle of the Platform Games :) Makes me want to make one. Think i might , soon :)
you are welcome, hooligan2001 ^^
.. I want to make one too .. lol
.. what do you think :D
hell, lets all do one
I'm making an RTS :D
small work:
i did some water movment (not bad but not perfect), plus added a new depth layer. still a lot of graphics are not done, and the water is suddenly cut at the begining, but...
is it always smooth with you?
http://board.flashkit.com/board/
http://www.marmotte.levillage.org/_e..._progress.html
also, maybe some of you know the answer: look at the water movment, is it better to use here some kind of custom tile (32*128) to limit the "gotoAndPlay" factor, or it doesn't change anything? (i mean, having 1 tile that does the job of 4...)
I like your idea mbenney, except, how about we all do one... together. Lets collaborate to make one really great game! There seems to be a good variety of talent here so we should be able to divide up tasks. Is anyone else interested in this idea?
-Steve
not really, i will only work with ONE graphic artist and ONE sound designer. group projects rarely work.
[m]
I don't think that is an accurate statement. Most commercial games are made by large development teams. But I know what you mean... To be more accurate you might say unpaid group projects rarely work because of the lack motivation (no money) and organization.Quote:
group projects rarely work
However, if the right group of people get together, it can work. It would require that only people who are willing to remain dedicated to such a project join up.

I found that the problem in this situation is that people don't want to be instructed on what to do! In a proffessional environment, there is a project manager and the programmers, artists etc are given instruction and direction from the supervisor. Young adults and tennagers (which is mostly the base users and developers of flashkit) don't like to take instruction and try to interject there own style and ideas into the mix, thus throwing everything out and if they don't like the ideas they run away and do it themselves!
This is what I found with a certain member of this board!! I would love to start a group at http://www.retrobase.co.uk of developers that would like to work on professional projects for customers under instruction, using real development plans, instructions artwork etc.
Anyone with professional ability is encouraged to post and maybe discuss further if people are really interested in this!
RipX
Very true rip...
I had a look at the site you posted. Sounds like a very intersting project, and I would be interested in discussing my participation.
-Steve
Well, that's the point, that project was dropped cos the peron who I was going to work with just argued with my design ideas so I just thought i'd work on my own tiledbased platform game!
So forget that project, i'd like to concentrate on scrolling platform gaming at present!!! Your welcome to contact me to maybe join something to do with this?!?!
RipX
Cool, rip... I just sent you an e-mail so we can continue discussing off-list
-Steve
LoL. Group projects. You only need to look at how many group projects that have been started on these boards that have failed and compare it with how many have actually been finished and you should probally get a figure like 0.01% finished games.
the 0.01% is taking into account the games that have been finished that i didnt see :)
But other then that Group Projects ROCK!:hubba:
All this pixel art has got me thinking. Why dont we have a Pixel WAR!
What i mean by this is. You lay down some rules eg
The First War will be like this.
Make your own hero character following these guides.
Race: Human
Gender : Male
Hair Colour: Red
Body Type : Medium Build
Clothes : Armour
Skin Colour : Your Choice
Size of image: 70w 70h
So everyone will post their version of the character.
Then the next WAR will be something like make a attack animation for the character you designed.
Their is no limit to the length of the animation.
This is like a learning tutorial for those who wish to learn how to do pixel art and for those who wish to show off their pixel skills.
And in the end we will all have a full animated character on which we can use in our games.
Im just making this up on the spot but if no one can be stuffed ill understand :(
i keep promising myself ill get into pixel art one day...
Hey, that's a good idea, but I won't enter cos I don't want to embarass anyone lol j/k!
RipX
mbenney:- Well its a great way to get into pixel art. Imporves the appearence of your games too :)
RipX:- pfft you would probally outdo everyone, what you worried about :P
Well, maybe just a quick one!!
http://www.mastersystem.org/misc/comp_entry.gif
RipX
Told ya you would own :)
Ill post the topic in a new thread later this week :) With the specifics. But do you think anyone will join in or will it just be me getting owned by you ?
hooligan, are you entering this competition???
Yeh ofcourse im posting the first sprite :)
ill *try* if i get time, but it will most probably be crappy! ive always been bad at figurative stuff...

hooligan2001
Cool idea .. I'm in, Just waiting for the new thread :D
Ripx
You really have a great pixel skills .. keep up :)
