ditto to that...
Firstly, hats off to 2A, specifically Andru for Taig's site.
All the comments about skaters not being into techy, well, i think that's an old stereotype...they've moved on from that, by how far, well that's a discussion all on it's own.
AND secondly, why is that whenever Tony Novak's around, the discussion always comes back to Miles' plaid shirt collection???
It's actually kinda humuorous how everything always relates back to this:D
Tony did you go over to his place one night and catch a glimpse of the Mother Load of all plaid? LMAO
Just curious!
As a public service announcement to the guy excitedly moving to austin: there are NO design jobs in austin. This may sound like an absurdly sweeping statement, but alas it is true.
I don't want to upset your day or your dreams, but I thought you might as well know BEFORE you get to austin.
There's hardly any design jobs anywhere right now. :(
true, though it's worse in England than it was in toronto, there's quite a bit of work around there if you know where to look but most of it is boring govt or corp stuff.
Luckily boring is what I'm good at ;)
I'm confused. Are you still in Toronto or back in England?Quote:

I'm sorry but I'm quoting the wrong thing.
What was this agency in Austin you thought he'd "probably want to stay away from" ?
Curiosity has got me.
Very nice looking site, but coding and set-up seem to have been done by Sloppy Joe.
As few people pointed out, easy to "break" and achieve unexpected results.
Not something you'd expect from professionals. Just because Microsoft can't get rid of their bugs shouldn't mean it's ok to upload buggy sites. After all designing a site isn't exactly the same as coding an operating system like Windows.
Let me guess. Another $3000 site sold for $30 000?
Cool. When you move around do you just move your whole Rigent business with you? You're not big enough to have two offices right?Quote:

heh, I was under the impression that whoswe were based in austin, I remember reading an interview with them on flashdevils ages ago and they seem like they're completely out of their trees.Quote:

I might be mistaken about austin, when you get to my age you shouldn't rely on memory anymore ;)
nah, we're basically a partnership with a few people working on contract and some alliances. For the government stuff you need to be a vendor of record to even talk to them in canada, and that's a pain in the ass, you have to have something like 38 govt references, so you ally with someone who is a vendor of record and then you contract through them.Quote:

being in england hasn't really changed anything, we're based on queen st in toronto and all the work I do comes from there.
haha. I'm liking your self deprecating humor. I've sold you short before! (really, some of my threads you closed were quite funny!)
Anyway...whoswe is from dallas, I believe. Or, let me say, dal-ASS.
Austin has some talent, I believe, or let me say ASS-town...but none of it talent you could work for [I believe] in a conventional manner, though I'm not sure about that.

Considering it's a smallish town that's not bad. If I were moving somewhere SOLELY for the purpose of getting more flash work...I would definitely go canada.
Anyone else noticed?Quote:

Not a criticism, just thought they'd like to know.
Oh I did, but didn't commend you for finding that. It's a common error that my company makes sometimes too.
hey miles, whos we is here in dallas :)
and no....i wouldnt want to work for them either, not from some of the things i've heard about them.
Perhaps you could help them make better client sites...or have you heard bad things about the people who work for them?
Yeah, but if I was paying $xx,xxx for a site, i'd expect something better than a really obvious speeeliing misstayke.Quote:

agreed, but nobody's perfect ya know?Quote:

Look what I saw this morning on the msnbc site:
http://board.flashkit.com/board/
Yeah, I know where you're coming from, but i'm just saying that for tens of thousands of dollars that a site like this costs, it should be perfect, or at least not have obvious mistakes - spelling a common word like receive incorrectly is as bad as for example spelling his name wrong, IMO of course.Quote:

Other than that, the site is breathtaking and i'm just being picky.
I proof read stuff all the time though, so i'm allowed to be
Well I'm sure I'll find something in Austin...and I'm not gonna drop edevstudios either so I'll make my living :)Quote:

I'm sure you will!
I didn't mean to be negative or anything...best of luck to you.
It's just that people who don't live in Austin and think they know things will tell you that Austin is some sort of tech mecca, which it is not, at least not for some years now.
ahhh yes dallas.. that's the puppy. I knew it was somewhere down there. BTW, if you're bored in austin this weekend and like interesting documentaries, check out "the revolution will not be televised" about the overthrow of chavez in venezuela, it's showing at the paramount theatre and probably won't get a general release, so it might be the only chance you get.Quote:

speaking as someone who's never been to austin, its profile is rapidly rising, I hear about it more and more in all fields, cultural mainly.
anyhoo, sofake rock, great sense of design.
speaking of good flicks, you all should go see the Pianist if its in theaters near you. Best picture of the year without a doubt. so sad yet so beautiful in parts.Quote:

kewl site. :)
ahhh... I love documentaries but alas, this weekend is the weekend of SXSW (music) so downtown will be utter hell and I dare not venture there.
in other news SXSW (interactive) had nominated WHOSWE as a finalist in "best company" category of their web awards. They didn't win but I'm also forced to mark another major award/competition off my list of relevancy (along with FLASHFORWARD where they won!) Bleeurggh!
but that's funny about austin gaining profile...well it is quite pretty in places, and if you're a naive college student/grad it's a great place to stage a protest. Yay!
oh and I've spent part of today reading about what a monster polanski is. I still want to see the movie but he belongs/belonged in prison.
hey you're wandering off-topic! ;)Quote:

yeah, I have seen it and loved it, it's one of those films people avoid because it's depressing, and while it is 'depressing' I think there's so much energy to be gained from watching a great film, going to the cinema isn't a process of osmosis, people miss out on so many great films because they think they're depressing. Great cinema is great cinema.
I just saw 'the good thief' which was a cracking little heist film.
hey...I thought flashlevel was NEVER posting here again?
maybe I misunderstood.
more TEXAS love! hurrah!
so many people have been saying that the pianist should be judged by its merits, not on polanski's history, but I think it's unavoidable, he did rape a child and has been convicted in the states, no amount of art merits his liberty.
I agree, where Polanski deserves some prison time and should not have been granted asylum out of the US, he is yet a great Director and visionary. Maybe he should get into website design? (I just said that to bring around the topic :))
Man, it's too bad FOX isn't in charge of the Academy Awards...they could invite him...award him the oscar...and then while he's giving his pompous acceptance speach JOE MILLIONAIRE could run out and tackle him and drag him to prison!
And then maybe america could vote on who would be roman's new boyfriend.
is joe millionaire a super hero of some sort?
I wonder if in the event that polanski does win an oscar they would dare put him on a satellite feed from france so he can say something like, 'thanks for this award I'm sorry I can't be there but I'm a convicted paedophile on the run....' God I hope not, it was bad enough when they did that at the BAFTAs (the british awards), he was on a ski slope with his teenage daughter, it was creepy.
eww you sure that was his daughter? j/k taking advantage of a child is one of the few things in this world that actually is evil.Quote:

To answer your question: yes he is.Quote:

And for future reference it is JOE MILLIONAIRE not joe millionaire...the man is too super to not be capitalized!
you'll see this one on the SATs...
Joe Millionaire is to American Culture as ___________ is to British Culture?
a.) Liam Gallagher's vomit
b.) Keith Richard's ass hair
c.) Queen Elizabeth's toe jam
d.) adam ant
:mrpimp:
haha, I am so lost when it comes to reality tv knowledge! I really must catch up one day.
from what I can gather i think JOE MILLIONAIRE is probably similar to the losers we have in the big brother house who actually think people are watching them?
except people DID watch joe millionaire.....but people also voted for George W Bush so it just goes to show....
hey sixtailer...if you so quickly associate anything "stupid" with george bush you really do belong in austin!
it will be a playground for you...hurry up and get here and you can participate in some of the demonstrations! hurrah!
*big hugs from leslie cochran await!*
from 2A to Joe Millionaire......hmmmm....guys...c'mon!!!!! :D
