I actually find it funny that most of the complaints about ATT's network issues come from iPhone users. I'm a BB user on ATT and have virtually no issues (other than a dead spot in my town that is dead for all networks), which does seem a little odd.
It just makes me think that this might be a cart leading the horse/tail wagging the dog/pick your euphemism situation. I wonder if they open up iPhone usage to competitors like Verizon and Sprint how long it will take for complaints to start flying in on their services as well. The email process on Blackberry is what I'd call a 'light' service (sans attachments, active content embedded, etc.) and there's not a ton of bandwidth intensive applications on the Blackberry. iPhone, conversely, offers a very rich internet experience that is vastly more bandwidth intensive. Having some of the processing done locally thru apps probably helps some of that, but I'd bet that a typical iPhone user is going to be much more of a bandwidth pig than users of other smartphones.
I haven't heard AT&T reps directly blame the iPhone power users for the drag on their network, but it's got to have at least some level of affect...what with rapid fire 'status updates' or wall postings, tweets, etc.
Anyway, just some food for thought.
