Mag, excellent work! You're really getting the form down just right!
haha and yes, I'm a girl :P
arikb... looks like you're having fun, have you considered adding white on top of your middle value?
fiddle, quite an interesting style as always, I love how you did the water :D congrats on your antibiotics, hope you feel well soon.

(final ink wash version) :D
Natsia, nice hair! Although it looks like the whole drawing is a tad skewed-- that generally happens when you draw while looking at the paper from an angle... has an nice atmosphere to it though :D
-
Thanks El, Most of my pics end up like that. Im a leftie.
Your drawings are getting so good, especially your eyes!
-
hehe thanks :D yeah I'm having fun with eyes, trying different styles with them and such.
Here's the latest! 15+ hours worth of inking! wheeee! (I traced the original picture, so I feel pretty bad about that)
I present to you... OMAR SHARIF!

Ah. Insane! Looks great!
-
Actually you did do a good job of capturing the insanity in that image. Nice work. :)
-
that crosshatching looks awesome :)
This painting is the final project for my art class. I still have over 1 week left to turn it in, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

is it supposed to be a reflective curved surface?
-
yeah. If it wasnt i should quit drawing. I know its not great, but.... meh... im trying
-
I would suggest that you try to pay a little more attention to the texture that is created by your brush strokes. This is especially apparent/detractive on the upper left part of his forehead (which would be his right). For the most part I would suggest that you make an effort to get the strokes to follow the contour of the form you are describing.
Looks good, though. :)
-
I was actually aiming for visible marks, but I guess they don't look as good as I thought
-
Nah, I wouldnt quit.
Only reason I say that was because of the perspective of the peice.
2 things also dont quite work for what youre trying to do here.
1: highlights. There dont seem to be any, which is throwing me off. Are we looking at a distorted image or a reflected image?
2: The amount of the skew on this image: Your black lines should be carried all the way to the edges of your ball ( I know you didnt do that because you made the background black.) and the tip of your noggin should be riiiiight at the top of the ball.
Your eye & the tip of your nostrils should be the focus of your image... they seem a little underemphasized.
This is effect is really hard to do well, so dont feel like you should stop drawing & painting all together.
I reccomend grabbing a spoon or finding a round doorhandle and having a good look at how the distortion wraps things in terms of space & depth.
-
nah, i didnt say I'd quit. I said that the drawing is so distorted that if I was trying to get a normal looking portrait (no distortion) THEN I should quit.
Cool, thanks for the ideas. I think they will defintley improve it.
It is a reflected image, so it does need the highlights.
-
thx for the compliments :D
arik, good luck with that portrait-- they gave some good advice, I haven't had much experience with curved surfaces... do add the highlights, though!!! That'll really help pop it out.
did this in Painter tonight:

here is some coloring thing I'm playing with

they belong to pum from cgtalk.com
its actually a sculpture in the original picture there were no colors whatsoever just plain clay so I built the background around them hope you like

Texture is absolutely amazing!
The depth... prespective! Lovely!
-
-
wow,it's been a long time since i've been here and no offense to those i don't mention (i haven't seen as much of your work as these others)....
e-tahn and Magnetos....you guys have seriously been throwing up some nice stuff in here. Great depth coloring and perspective in everything you're doing. You've both grown a HELL of a lot in the past 6-8 months that i've noticed your works.
Keep the good stuff up!
-
So what did you use to make that last one, Magnetos? That's a hefty slice of sweetness, right there.
-
thanks guys :)
excellent work arikb wish the pic was a bit brighter though :)
Rush i just used the old mighty photoshoppe 7 yeah i still have the 7 still good i guess.
no reference used for this one i made it all up, actually i started by drawing i big cube
then all this other stuff poped up out of nowhere :)
for the texture i used some home made texture background that i make then i change the blending mode to multiply or one that looks good and i work on top of it on another level , tweak a bit the saturate effect to make it monochromatic , yeah that's pretty much it ;)
-
Great use of the tools, man! :)
-
some nice submissions so far (been clicking through a lot pages within this thread)

ahaha, true.
Magnetos_II
Nice color! and i am jealous XD
-
ooo! so much to comment on!!
MAGS!! Where are you finding all the time to put these together??! haha-- great work as always, llooks like you're really getting the hang of textures! Thos mech spider light things are interesting, did you base them off of an original picture, because it seems to have photographic grain.
arikb, nice value range on that skull-- you've got the darkest darks and it was quite obviously a white object, nice work!!
render... haha what a character you've got there XD foaming at the mouth (like beer, I suppose)-- I like that you've kinda sketched out the hair on the left side and made it all artsy modernistic non-realistic, while the rest of it holds realistic... so that feels like "arrg, this whole piece should look like realism!" but then it's really fun to look at that more scribbley side, too.. haha. I'm liking your colors and most certainly the details!
mclelun, oh how I wish I could draw trees and shrooms and plants and roots and make it look so perfect, in some strange fantasy world. I like!
And here's what I've been up to lately....

I love your style, Tahnee. The garage gnomes are very cute. :D:thumbsup:
-
Magnetos, that sea creature...thing is just so imaginative! Great work...
-
Magnetos_II: I like your concept art so far. Those tanks look a little bit like those Starwrs droids
The_e-Tahn: I like the dog barking fire ^^- nice lightning there
-
render: I like how you left the marks visible below the paint. nj
mclelun: nice sketch
Mag: Awesome concept art, I think you'll be at the professional level pretty soon, if you are not already there.
e-than: cool stuff. I like the ovni alien the most. However, if you don't mind a small critique, in the dog picture the fire looks flat but the dog looks in 3D. I don't know if thats intentional or not though.
Today I went to life drawing and painted this. Maybe the proportions are a little too long, but I'm still not sure.

excellent stuff boys and gals very gooda :)
tahan i like your work although i must admit i prefer the cute comic style over the realistic ones soo cute :)
arikb ,interesitng picture is that traditional oils you're using or is it digital ? now days its hard to tell .;)
by the way yes i noticed tha his arm is way too long and i think he has a very short neck i also dont think you need to censure the guy genitals, i think it's allowed in artistic portraits me thinks
keep up the good work guys :)
-
No, lets just try to keep it all G-rated. Thanks for taking the trouble, arikb. :)
-
It's oil.
Now that I look at it agan, I think that the arm looks long because I didn't define the hand very well.
I hate to add blurs/censorship bars because they "mutilate" the image, and besides, there shouldn't be anything wrong with nudity, but last time I didn't do it my pictures got deleted from photobucket and somebody also asked me not to post them here.(maybe it was rush?).
