and ban car bombs in Ireland, rocks and suicide bombers in Israel, Lebanon, and Chechnya, bombs in Indonesia, chemical concoctions in Japanese subways, guns and bombs in Holland (remember the Ikea threats a while back?)Quote:

again. you just show how much research you've done. I can't stress how much this stuff happens everywhere.
And if guns were banned?
They would just be imported and bought illegally...
click the link in my post, flasher to "unconfuse" yourself.
Yeah I know these things happen everywhere else, the only reason why I had said that is because by banning guns you may decrease gun crime. Yeah the likely hood is that they would be imported illegally, but the point is that it wont be so easy to access a firearm if it is banned; this therefore mean that 'kids' will be less likely to access firearms and commit these acts.
Huh? Please enlighten me, why just ban them in America? Are you 'enlightened' Europeans just that much smarter to know that you shouldn't use guns?Quote:

Gee golly, us dumb Americans sure don't know better.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go milk some cows before gramps beats me with a belt.
kids can't buy guns. adults can. legally that is.Quote:

as in the other thread, I blame the parents. I was raised up in a house with a gun closet/safe. I never knew the combination, nor owned a key to it.
my parents safe guarded me. I'm not the only person that can tell that tale.
and you know what? it's stupid of me thinking that other people, regardless of where they are at, can be a good parent. anybody can make a kid, it takes a special breed to raise that kid.
whilst in Ankara, Turkey, I saw more kids with guns than in the US. I don't know about you, but the images of Afghanistan children with guns sticks with me from when they were fighting the Soviet Union.
And then to say, blindly (I'm assuming you've never lived in the US, nor even visited, right?) that firearms should be banned means that you don't know that it's in our constituition. that doesn't make it right, but it's enforceable.
but parenting, that's not enforceable. especially good parenting.
I do not wish to be judged by the few, myopic, limited views that you seem to have. your statements seem to clump all americans seemingly together. how fair is that!?
mind you, this is not an attack on you directly. I'm just amazed at how small the view of the US a lot of you people on this board seem to have.
Again, no disrespect intended, but research before statements like that would be adviseable.
btw, during the end of the reign of Apartheid in South Africa, more people were killed that year than the US gun deaths.
btw, I think bullets should be made illegal, or prohibitively expensive. what's the use of a gun without a bullet?
ok. I'm through. :)
Fair point, same principle should apply there , but these countries that you used like the ones in Africa and the ones above are 3rd world countries...or poorer countries with plenty of corruption - so I am not supprised that there are kids with guns everywhere.Quote:

Yes that is true, but who said that adults wouldnt buy one for malicious purposes.Quote:

I am only concentrating on America because thats where this incident happend. Not because I am picking on your country. Not all parents are good parents like yours, and so why not prevent these kind of incidents from happening in the first place by banning the gun? Why is it so important to own a gun...for self defence? Here in England we dont need guns for survival purposes. You have even stated yourself that they should make bullets very expensive, whats the point? just ban the gun, either way your not going to be using it.
the point? they can still follow the "right to bear arms" in the constitution, yet be restricted with the bullets.
anyway. I think the banning of guns is not the root of the problem.
I know it isnt...but then what is? in your opinion
I thought I was clear what my stance was. Sorry for my assumption.
My stance is that guns are not the issue, it's stupid people that make babies and don't know how to tell their loin spawn how to, and how not to be in society. While I have to bear the burden, financially via my taxes, and my time via the news and making sure I don't get caught up in their stupidity; I believe that the steps taken so far are in a good step in America.
For the uninitiated, that means that you have to go through a period of wait to purchase a gun. If you are caught with a gun that is not registered, then you are hauled off to where other bad people go.
However, I digress. Education is the key. And in the case of some idiot child who was born to even more incapable parents, then that was an incident waiting to happen. how do you solve that? Who the hell knows. there's no such thing as a parenting test before you can do the actions to make a child.
Education on the happening rest of the world, and instilling morals would be my next step. That's sorely lacking in many individuals. People no longer value life anymore.
If I were to solve that, I'd declare myself emperor.
And what about yourself? Blindly outlawing guns will cease the bombings, radical fundamentalists, wars, and other human initiated issues on this planet can be solved via gun bannings, right?
You know guns aren't the only way to kill someone. If they ban guns, people willl start inventing all sorts of concoctions to kill people.
And if bullets were made too expensive, people would just have they made under the table.
Exactly Gerbs guns arnt the problem and if The government did outlaw guns do u know how many gun related crimes there would be. We would take it as an incrochment on our freedoms that we have earned.
The fact is this is one of the only countrys u can legaly have guns and if we couldnt by guns then maybee those kids would have attacked the car with a chain saw (i know i love doin that in vice city hehe)
Not attacking your point on Afganistan and all of those countrys because it did persist to some coments above. But im not considering those countrys in my statement because they are to poor to own video games and have of them dont even have radios. So murders commited in those countrys by children are because of war the children are brought up to fight just like the men.
Parents just need to keep there damn guns locked up and need to ask there kids QUESTIONS be involved with there childrens lives. My parents wernt to involved with my life but they brought me up from an early age to have morals and respect. Parenting and crack heads are the problem.
I think it was Chris Rock that said every bullet should cost 5'000$... if you ever saw that video clip you know what I'm talking about.
Yea that was funny. Then he said everyone would have to say "I'd shoot you...if I could afford it!". He also said that it would reduce the risk of getting shot as an innocent bystander, as people would be more careful where bullets fly. :DQuote:

OK, I got into the discussion a bit late and I'm totally sure what has been covered (I skimmed the 4 pages of posts), but there are some key issues missed by that article.
2 kids, ages 14 and 16, took rifles (more than one rifle) to the interstate to shoot at cars and "told police they did not mean to hit people". They blame a video game.
There are so many things wrong with that statement. Why do the kids have access to multiple rifles and ammunition? Who thinks that they can shoot a rifle at a car and not hit someone?
The parents seem to be neglegent and the kids seem to be incompitent.
I don't see how it would be the media's fault for this since they could have done this at any time even without playing the video game. I've seen more violence in my life from the local and national news sources. And I've been playing violent vieo games and watching violent movies/TV since the late '80's. With all the violence in the world, how does one not get that in their head?
I remember from my journalism class that we discussed this very topic. There was a study done to see if violent movies/TV/video games actually made children more prone to violence. What did the study show? The children watching the movies/TV/video games were less prone to violence. Why is that? They were too busy with Movies/TV/video games to go and be violent.
I had another point, but I forgot it. Maybe later.

ok thats like sayin that banning drugs would decrease drug use? last time i checked drugs are on banned status. also banning something only makes the situation worse. look at the prohibition. alcohol was banned and more crime and wrongdoing took place than the alcohol had initially caused. guns dont kill people, stupid people kill people. take away the guns and they will make bigger knives. take away the knives and they will make deadly sticks. take away the sticks and humans will develop bigger stronger hands and arms. violence is life and it just cant be stopped. it can however be controlled to a point by parents and judgement. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAH!! Who ever heard of a deadly stick....
Actually I would prefer it like that, it'd be like a kung fu movie :D
