I don't think being athiest is a bad thing . I think believing in God and doing wrong things is much worse.. It's kind of like the movie signs. Mel Gibson hated God ever since his wife died because God had let her die bla bla bla..

its cool mel gibson got back at god by stabbing his son with a pike. and making millions of dollars off it.

ah... ok.. yeah I agree that he did make millions off the movie which he probably should have donated given the nature of it. I personally didn't like it.. but you gotta atleast give him credit for going against hollywood pressure to drop the production..

Wasted = wasted, time, lives, wars, whatever you want to attribute to a god. What if god doesn't exist, and you had proof? Then the only effort worthy of thinking about it would be to write fiction. Which is what it is anyway, IMO. :D

Well, I don't know that anyone has to prove it doesn't exist. I stick with the concept that unless everyone can see, feel, hear and smell it, the onus of proof is on those that say it does exist, all physical evidence to the contrary. Until they do, it's only their opinion, read theory.

What if god exist and you had proof? Would you change your life?

Fact is we don't have scientific proof for or against god, ignoring one posibility would give you a 50% chance that you where wrong and a 50% posibility that you maybe wasted your time. If you live your life in a way, that both posibilities could be true and you don't waste a significant extra amount of your time doing that, then that's IMO better then having a 50% chance of wasting your time.

Both possibilities could be true? Um, NOT. Conceptual impossibility. I live my life like there isn't, and I resent the years wasted that I did believe. I blame all that wasted time on my society and of course, the thumpers, that can't keep their beliefs to themselves, but have to cram them down everyones throats, including children.

Just always be honest to yourself (and to other people whenever possible) and respect other opinions/persons and be open minded. If you do that then it's not important if you believe in god/afterlife/whatever or not. :)

Sorry to be a dick, but this story isn't a very good parable.

Light and heat can be measured scientifically, good and evil are subjective human descriptions with no scientific relevance at all.

It would make sense that Einstein would never have said this, and it's sort of weird that people (not you D1, just whoever you got this from) feel like it's perfectly acceptable to attribute this story to him (if it didn't in fact happen).

From an anthropologists view, all religions are meant to protect a society — from not eating pork (so as not to get salmonella) to not using contraception (to increase the numbers of the flock).
