I actually don't need one. I do all my backups on external harddiscs and as long as my friends and clients don't have a BR drive, this really isn't of any use to me.

What I'm currently looking into is an external NAS solution. One with Raid 5, hot-swappable drives, gigabit ethernet and of course it should play nice with my Macs. Not only my data will be on it, my whole iTunes library as well, so it has to perform better than most cheap NAS solutions out there.

Or I just buy a Mac mini, run iTunes on it and connect one of those external Firewire Raid Drives.

Funny you said Firewire Raid... been looking at those lately too. You should share what you find... I'll do the same.

Some of them have had probs, some of the newer ones are pretty damn nice. As far as a NAS goes, Iomega has one that I used for two years.

I'm currently using a Maxtor OneTouch Turbo Edition (500GB as Raid 1) with my Powermac over Firewire. Speed is ok, but the device does'nt always awake from sleep. Sadly you can't tell the drive to never go into sleep mode. Without that problem I would most likely just buy a bigger one and a Mac mini.

Drobo ( http://www.drobo.com/products.aspx ) looks interesting. It isn't NAS, but still has that functionality. They have'nt shipped one till now, so no user reviews and I'm not sure how to get one over here in Switzerland.

After reading tons of reviews, I made my decision, no Firewire Raid, I go with a real solid gigabit NAS solution, the Infrant ReadyNAS NV+ together with four Samsung SpinPoint 500GB SATA II discs. 2TB or 1.5TB after Raid 5, hot swappable for about $1300.- ... you really can't complain ... just don't buy the discs from Infrant or you pay almost twice as much.

If you're still looking for a FW solution, I found that the Freecom Datatank is very cheap and stylish. However, no idea how reliable they are. Have'nt seen any negative reviews, but that may be just that they aren't very good known.
