A maniac is threatening with a new massacre:

It is odd how the people that actually want to do something like this don't tell people ahead of time and then people wanting attention are announcing their intentions to everyone and their brothers.
Sorry to beat a dead horse, but I wanted to talk about the media again, which is making me sick to my stomach. I found an interesting article from fark...

NBC's news department heads received a gift from the gods, via the mail, and they'd be damned if they weren't going to run with it -- no matter what kind of moral somersaults they might have to perform to justify the decision.
So run with it they did -- splashing Cho Seung-Hui's contorted face and idiotic ramblings across the airwaves with all the subtlety of gang-bang porn.
As you may know, Cho mailed a package to NBC on wednesday, and NBC was more than glad to air it all on TV. They seemed very very proud of the fact that out of all the news agencies, Cho chose NBC as the one to air his pathetic rants.
What do you guys think? My thought is, on one hand - when you hear about a guy killing 32 people in cold blood, you want to know what this guy looks like, and why he did it. On the other hand, I can't imagine being a family member of any of these victims, and then turning on the TV and being assaulted once again by this kids ugly ass face.
...just goes to show that anybody can get their 5 minutes of notariety when selling news is more important than reporting it.
I am not sure why anyone would want to know what a dead mass murderer looks like.
...I mean who really cares for any good reason.

I won't watch the news and I've avoided newspaper articles on this guy. I couldn't give a **** about his life or his story, I don't need to be bashed over the head with it every time I turn on the TV.
that's the thing, humans are curious and the media knows this.
Most people will have at least a quick glance at those photos.
If you've looked at a newspaper or turned on the TV in the past week, it's almost impossible to avoid seeing what this guy looks like. How many people immediately looked away when presented with his image? How many people have never looked at a photo of Ted Bundy, Jeffrey Dahmer, Timothy McVeigh, Charles Manson or any other notorious mass murderer? How many people have never seen a photos of the 911 hijackers, or a picture of Bin Laden? It's almost impossible not to wonder who these people are, maybe even falsely hoping you can see through the photos, to catch a glimpse of what made that person kill. Looking at a photo doesn't mean you sympathize with the killer, or are sick and twisted yourself for being curious.
That's why I'm torn on the subject, because I'd probably also be complaining, out of principle, if the media were suppressing any information. Fair use and access to information is important to me. Yet, I hate the way the media, as you said David, cares more about ratings than reporting. NBC plasters it's own logo all over the images and videos. After initially seeing the photos of this kid, and the way the media presented them, and relished in them, I'd had enough. They are turning him into exactly what he wanted, a martyr.
People who does things like this massacre, want to get attention. They want to be remembered! And the media also want to get attention. Therefore, media can be used by people like these.
