I'm not sure about the board going downhill. It has fits and starts ( Normally goes a bit sucky during school holidays when script kiddies join on mass all wanting to make something far too big for them. Just cause you can tween a fade doesn't mean the next step is WarCraft ).
I just think if anything the board has just matured. The older hands are now working full time with Flash, which means NDA's, which means no sneak peeks.
I was only thinking today that I don't get time to experiment with game styles any more, any project I start I know I have to finish so I can't take risks. I assume a lot of other freelancers are in the same boat ( Plus working all day on a paid job takes the joy out of working on your own stuff during the evening ).
In saying that, it used to feel every couple of months or so someone would come up with something cool which we'd all run with and try and push it as far as possible ( Who remembers all the scroller engine threads ), and that doesn't happen as much these days.
"Something that I do not want to see, however, is a person putting up the price offered for their game and asking if that is fair, because that is more like price overcutting, and I think that should stick to PM."
Totally agree.
It seems like the vast majority of people here don't want money openly spoken about. That surprises me a little, as in my opening post I mentioned that the environment we work in now has changed, and money is a lot more of an important factor that ever before.
Being honest I've not seen an argument to justify openly talking about actual cash amounts here.
I'm not sure where we go now. Do we have a final vote on it ? Do we just keep it as an unwritten rule and we all jump on threads that break it or do we add it to the Read Me guide so it's no longer "unwritten" ?
Or is there more debate to be had ?
Squize.
