GoldenAxe ?
im in, just dunno if i can make the deadline
here is my sprite...its my first one!
It still needs a little touching up, and highlights, but i wanted to prove that I will have a sprite today! And I would like feedback, criticism. Also, how do i resize to 70x70 without distortion??

nice to see you,too :)
and nope, its not a fleeting visit, now i have a bit more free time again, after working even on weekends the last few weeks,i had yesterday and today free (as we got all deadline stuff finished in time :) )
now i´m thinking which of my free time thingies i should finish first..
and yep,i meant golden axe :)
(really a shame i forgot the name,as it was one of the few arcade machines i spent lots of money to play it for a while when i was 15 :) )
tomsamson: Do you meen Golden Axe??
You don't, you just draw it at 70*70Quote:

well, i draw mine on paper first...so how many pixels are in an inch? I'm gonna need to draw it to scale on paper so i can resize to proportion.Quote:

edit -- Nevermind....i found the answer

how long do we have to animate our sprite?
i guess officially, this is my submission
http://mreynoldo.tripod.com/battlemedicsmall
http://mreynoldo.tripod.com/battlemedicmedium
unofficially, it still needs a little work, but im gonna start animating it. I suppose it ain't too bad for a first pixel sprite!!
Here is some info on her:
Name--Elise
Sex--Female
Hair--Red
Eyes--Green
HT--5'7"
WT--120lbs
Build--Medium-Small
Class--Battle Medic (soldier/healer)
Armor--Plates, Small Buckler
Weapon--Standard Issue Sword
Magic--Heal, Cure, Antidote Herbs
it looks like you drew her...in flash??
actually, i followed RipXs instructions...
drew on paper
scanned into photoshop
traced
colored in
:smoov:
it doesn't really look like a classic sprite cause it isn't 70x70. And I guess the size makes it look kind of vector too....
Actually you can shrink it without distorting it in Photoshop, not sure about programs like Paintshop Pro or other easy to use Raster editing tools. In Photoshop you can do it by going to Image, then select Image Size and shrink the biggest part of your image to 70 pixels, either the heighth or the width (for most it would be heighth unless your character happens to be "Fat Bastard" from Austin Powers). Make sure though that you've selected constrain image properties (the size of the image) so that when you do modify the heighth to 70, it will automatically resize the width so that it won't stretch it to fit. Just my tip.. as I reread it though it makes me want to make a mini tutorial on how to do this... hmm.. Yeah just some advice on shrinking down the picture, good luck with it, I'll be following this thread on my own.

If you need help on following my directions just buzz me with a post or something and I'll make a quick couple images guiding you through the process.
yeah, i thought about doing it your way actually....but as the height would be 70, the width would be significantly smaller than 70. And I thought the idea was to keep the sprite to fill the 70x70 as much as possible....so i just took the width down to 70 and left the height in proportion...(like 120 or something like that)
thanks though!
here's a character i've been making for a new animation - thought might as well post him :)

Well, that's nothing like my tutorial: It goes like this:Quote:

Draw picture,
Scan Picture,
Resize to 70 pixels,
Add new raster layer,
Trace image outline,
Copy layer to new image,
Fill image,
Add light effects.

Here my Pixel drawing im adding to the competition:
Spent hours drawing thishttp://www.ukskateboarder.com/ninja.gif
very cool strangelife
Your welcome chuckles. Just thought I'd help out where I could, I even made the tutorial for it since I was pretty bored (didn't have work today but it can get pretty boring not working) So yeah, you need help resizing it in PS try here www.geocities.com/flashmasterwatts/ (click the shrinking tutorial link or save it, whatever floats your boat)
After going through this whole thread a second time, I really liked all the sprites that people were doing, made me think of some gigantic flash game project or something.
As for the tutorial as long as you get it down to 70 pixels that's what I think counts. I like drawing it big so then if you do some major shading mistake or you don't want to spend all the time creating the detail, you can then shrink it and it'll look great without having a few hours of time spent on it.
:yarr: Wattsman :yarr:
My God! How many times to I need to say, you resize your image before you create to a sprite. Look at the edges on your tutorial, they're alaised, no Sprite can work like that because the colors bleed on a background making it totally distroted unless you use multiple layer transparency png, which is hardly ever for sprites!Quote:

I love my character :D .. im going to make him walk real soon .
http://board.flashkit.com/board/
I'm not sure which guy i should do.
an attack animation, hmmm, ive never animated! i think the logical step is to do a walking animation, and thats what im gonna do... any objections? will this exclude me from the compo?
[m]
That's what I was going to sujest, believe me, animating is much, much more difficult to drawing a simple sprite!!!Quote:

ok, its not brilliant! im still toying with adding the sword to his hand, dunno though, its something that can be done at any point though! dont laugh!

pretty good for a first attempt.
when you get more experienced, try ading more frames to increase smoothness. and maybe add some colour.
haha, his head gets well fat in the third frame
i already did one static image! http://board.flashkit.com/board/ pretty much copied a photo tho, im sorting out the fat head and body, when im happy ill colour up!Quote:

lol!!! i didn't want to mention the fat head :D
nice images
hey, how do you put up an image in the actual box (like youv'e done) instead of putting it in an attachment.
also, when ever i try to save a lil flash anim. as an "animated gif," if i try to post it, it'll come up as one static image (the first frame) i've tried 'export movie' and everything...help!!
lol, I don't think I laughed at a thread like I just did reading this one 'bout a WELL FAT head! :D
lol...here here
ok i reduced that obese head a little and its much improved...

bacon man, im exporting from flash, and using the [*img][*/img] tags (minus the asterisks)

Quick tip mbenny, remmember that when a character runs they are usually propelling themself forwards and upwards, so you should make the movement go very slightly (1/2 pixels) upwards in the animation! Really imagine the actual physics, the key is "action and reaction"!
RipX
okay, i think im finished for now... may add another couple of frames to make it a little smoother at a later date...

Im digg'n this thread... I need some help though! Im almost done with the basic coloring (no shading yet) of my FIRST character (he kinda looks like me :)) anyway, im having a hard time doing the face... any suggestions?

well, heres my first pixel character ever... i still need some help on shading his jeans and shirt (mucles too). Let me know what you think / critisizm.
