Apparently some studies show that women with uncircumsized partners have a higher incidence of get cervical cancer.
Here by us Zulu and Xhosa boys get circumcized when they are 13 - and sometimes in very unhygenic situations. Every year someone dies or has to go to hospital...
But its part of an entire ceremony of becoming a man, in which the boys are isolated for a time away from the urban environment, and they are taught how to be men - all kinds of secret rituals.
Girls used to have a similar ceremony, but it does not seem to happen any more. It did not involve circumcision, but was a ceremonial "becoming a woman" thing . Wonder why the womens version falls away, and the male one stays?
