[PLAY] Bubble Islands!

I can't seem to get past 1/4 of loading the game... it starts smooth, loadbar gets to 1/4 then goes into absurdly slowmo... by the way, I already clicked all your google ads, I hope that gives you money... I don't know how those ads work. Definitely going to look into mochi, if I ever get this game I'm trying to make done. Actually the game was inspired by marmotte's meteor busters, what a coincidence. You're my hero!

edit: timing it, it seems it will take about 10-15 minutes to load the game.
edit #2: LOL so the game finally loaded, I went to puzzle, it started loading, and then the bar went backwards and is moving incredibly slow, i think i give up :zzz:

Hm, thinking it over, I don't think anyone's likely to load enough of the game any time soon to actually reach the advert.

And yes, an FK downloadable version would be awesome. I only played it for a few minutes on Friday (not too big on puzzlers, never realized the game was this big of a deal), and I'm really, really regretting it now that I've seen how many people are going for it.

Thing is, I never, ever play Flash stuff in the browser. I'm on a Mac, so I have to sniff out the URL and save the swf to run it through the standalone player if I want a decent framerate. Would've had a longer run on your game if I didn't have homework to do, and if it weren't in the browser (mainly the homework thing).

Doh! T_T Funnily enough it was doing like that with me during several hours, and now it's super fast. Maybe you got redirected on a slower server, i don't know... Is there a red text above the game window saying about the servers being under pressure? (and well, did the mochi-ad even show?)

edit: woh just tried again, super fast load!

edit #2: okay, so first load screen loads great. Got to puzzle, still takes forever to load the level. T_T

The puzzle loaded super fast with me, but i didn't see the red alert... maybe i'm playing the game from another server...

Unfortunately the server guy isn't connected right now... way to go, marmotte, way to go.

edit: seems to finally be playing properly. decent/fast loading times.

The "server guy" (aka me, thx marmotte, its good being a team) wasnt connected 'cause "he" was kinda busy
working on the load balancing on the servers and finding somehow extra burst from nowhere to uphold the minijuegos Tsunami.

For the info, it's "340 conns/sec" on just one server (about the same going on the 2 others).

Yes, Hasufel, creator of the flash version of "Puzzle Bobble" (a flash mega-hit) is teaming with me and is in charge of the server(s) part of "Bubble Islands 0.5", and is also in charge of the whole developement part of the version 1.0 (multi-player, updated game engine etc etc). He's the "server guy" i was talking about, and feel free to call me "art guy" in your next post :p

His name is already in the credits of the current game (in the "puzzle credits"), but it's Hasufel in these forums (and his credits will be way more important in the version 1.0 anyway)

I don't have much to add than a well deserved Congratulations!

It's one of the most polished Flash games I've seen, and the gameplay is awesome! You will win many awards for this game, I can almost guarantee.

Lol, this is just me being nitpicky, but since I can't play the game I decided to check out the source code for your site... and I was disappointed to see that your entire layout is done via tables. Very primitive. I suggest you tell your web designer to learn to design via Div elements.

I know, I know, actually it's my own work ^_^ I had to rush and create the site in 1 day, and my html knowledge is... primitive (but the site is sill nice and working, for some reason).

Of course the "real" site will be professional (and it HAS TO, since you'll have to create an account < the next version of Bubble Islands will be way more interactive and evolutive, multilanguage and multiplayer, each member will have stats, levels etc etc, but i'll not reveal everything), so no worry about that.

What's so good about Div? Is that where you give everything absolute coordinates and layers?

If I'm correct in that assumption, I see the advantage (overlapping objects, more precise positioning), but I still love my tables.

The way you code a site is completly irrelevant, make it with tables or make with DIV the only thing which matters is the outcome, which in this case is beautiful and usable :D

Im stuck on background image for sites :) Cant get things to line up properly and half the css commmands dont do jack for me.

Yet again Marmotte nice game, just checked out your other stuff aswell and im anxious to see what u do next.

div has its advantages... and no, not positioning things absolutely. div's can be positioned in MANY different ways.

the benefits are that they are a much cleaner method of coding. they seperate the code how it should be separated: html-content, css-styling/format, js-interactivity. they are also MUCH more flexible than tables. they can even be coded to function the same way a table does.

G*d d*mn it. This surely makes you rethink the quality of any game in your own pipeline. Hell this is one of the most polished games I've seen for a verrrrry long time.

I don't have many things to add to all those replies on flashkit. This is a game that will stay in our minds. I didn't know 2 people can do such a wonderful and polished game. Let us know how is it going with mochiads ;) . I'm also using it for the first time with my new game and it works pretty well...

Just one aother question. How can you manage a game on several servers ? You use a load balancer that redirect the request on the servers ?
