^Hmm, didn't think about that...
I belive we should do it in category and an overall winner, just like the challenges in the past on Flash kit. Anyone agree?

Yeah, I think that way is better. Everyone votes for their favorite in each category and for an overall best. If all the people agree in going this way, we should also define the categories.
Categories I can think of:
Best overall game
Best gameplay
Best graphics (eye candy)
Most fun
Replay value
Those are the only ones I can think of ATM. Feel free to add/remove from the list!
uh, i don't want to seem off topic but i'm beginning to think i should have started my thread here not at the Newbies section, cause I'm not getting much help.
(My thread, Please take a look)

btw great idea with the comps, doubt I'll even have a chance though
^First of, please don't spam this thread with unrelated stuff.
Second, it dosen't matter if you don't have a chance, since you will learn new techniques of people, since (hopefully) a lot of the games will go open-source. The competitions are not just about winning either, since it could be a good start for their own game, having the fun of doing something with the whole FlashKit community, and get criticism on how you can improve in the future.
So in my opinion, just join in, and give it your best!
:)
I think those categories are good, they cover every aspect (don't quite get the replay value one. Do you mean if you come again to play the game?). I would suggest to add another one. As this will be open source (for the ones who want it) there could be a "best coding" category, so the ones who make their game open for everyone also get a plus by having a chance to win into this category. You can evaluate how efficient the code is, how compact, etc... What do you think?
^Yep, will definitely add it in then!
Should it include how well documented (comments) it is?
Yeah, I think that would be cool. Commenting should be encouraged, definitely very important for a learning purpose.
At this rate we're going to have more categories than entries
At this rate we're never going to have a competition.
Explain?
I say cut it down to first second and possibly third place.
Too many of these categories are going to go to the same entry, and as has been mentioned we are going to have more categories than entries.
Ok...so we just have best overall game?
yes, we're having it. On next weekend as far as I know :)Quote:

There won't be enough entries for all these categories. Every entry will end up winning like 2 things. Plus if you make it so people can win based on graphics, some people will spend all weekend on graphics. If you make it so people can win based on code documentation, people will spend all weekend documenting code. We want people to spend all weekend making a good game, in every way.
Exactly. Thats why judging in the categories would make a good game, since people try to win in EVERY possible category. Winning in one dosen't mean that you win the whole competition.Quote:
in every way
See PhobiK's last post.
So what's wrong about recognizing every way? There wasn't problem in previous 48hr comps just because they had categories. Instead it was encouraging that if you didn't win the overall first place you could still win in something else. So if you all don't want them, it's ok. I just don't see any evil in them.Quote:

I suppose you are right. It's more fun with lots of categories.
I'm with Wes, it's unrealistic to believe that people are on FK are going to cover all 15 categories in 48H, especially when you've been preaching this to be open to complete amateurs an beginners.
