I have to say, City of Ember was a pretty good movie. You could view it from two angles and tear it apart if from the perspective of plot holes, or really appreciate the sets and cool factor.
W. was a terrible movie. It felt more like an SNL skit than a historical account. Poorly written, poorly casted and made me realize it's just way too soon to try and tell this story. There are reenactments of conversations Stone could never have learned about which ruins the credibility. Maybe worth watching for those that still think Iraq was a good idea but thats it.
Dawn of the Dead (the original) was HORRIBLE. Thinking it was supposed to be a good scary gore flick, i had checked out ratings but skipped all reviews. Ratings were on average 80% positive. Pretty high for horror genre. Man was i mistaken on what this was.
Just a complete mockery of the whole genre. I was OK with the horrible acting and stupid special effects (i.e. blood that looked like paint), but when the biker gang starting slamming pies and spraying seltzer water into the faces of the zombies, i lost all respect for the movie. What a horrible horrible POS that was. ick.
i dont think iv ever seen a zombie movie that was a gore flick. the closest would be the 28 days/weeks later movies and those are barely zombie movies. more of infected humans movies.
and really to expect to be scared of anything made that long ago you shoulda known better.
I netflix'd a lot of horror lately and am starting to wonder if they even make scary movies anymore. Any suggestions?
I was just having that conversation this week. I love horror movies but sadly nothing amazing has really come out in years.

We watched Friday the 13th Part IV the other night. Not scary but one of the more classic ones of the series.
Been checking out all of the japanese remakes among others:
One Missed Call - really bad with decent creep
Shutter - decent with a let-down ending
The Eye - not bad
The Ruins - kinda cool but not scary
1408 - starts out good...
The Hills Have Eyes 2 - intelligent, but ultimately a clone
the guy that made the decent is working on a movie i believe. ill have to look it up again but the decent was the last movie that creeped me out.
I'm not big on cramped spaces so the scene where she got stuck reeeally creeped me out.
The last movie I remember messing with me was the The Exorcism of Emily Rose.
man the opening where they crash into that van and the poles and the ugh nightmare inducing.
something simple and realistic. so creepy.
I recently just saw Cube and really enjoyed it. Some very creative kills. I will need to rewatch it closer and watch the squeal/prequel.
i almost picked up cube the other night, but thought i saw a negative review here, but i could have been wrong. was it more of a mind-f or was it scary?

Eraserhead will now give me nightmares for the rest of my life. I think my brain just oozed out some important stuff after watching it. the last 10-15 minutes of the movie, my jaw was literally locked open with bewilderment. wow.

nope, must have skipped that one. I'll see about adding that one ot netflix. i absolutely hated Inland Empire. I loved mulholland drive and walk walk with me though. But Inland Empire was just too disjointed even for a david lynch movie.
RedBelt was very enjoyable.
I tried to watch redbelt but just couldnt get into it. It was late though and I usually don't like movies I end up falling asleep to.
it definitely wasnt what i was expecting. i thought it would be a better never back down type of learning martial arts using it and winning the day type movie.
It was a much more dramatic, martial arts as more of an underlying theme about doing whats right and not taking the easy paycheck, and having respect for yourself and your art. Very little fighting, very character driven. not what i was expecting content wise, but better overall, something i could def watch again.
Yeah I only wanted to see it because the same guy wrote Glengarry Glen Ross.
The Punisher... I just saw it on TV. When your biggest / only star is John Travolta, it shows (as much as I hate to admit that star power makes a movie). The best part was where the guy asks if he needs help finding underwear and then starts smiling as if recognizing how corny / ridiculous the movie is. :D
And I just saw a web advertisement for a sequel coming out this friday. At the end of the movie, I was thinking, "it's a shame they did such a bad job on what could have been a good movie. This will NEVER get a sequel."
i liked the punisher. if wasnt the worst comic book movie iv ever seen. this new punisher looks like ****.
does anyone remember the original punisher movie starring Dolph Lundgren? Now that was a crappy movie! LOL

a couple of things
1.) picked up a used copy of critters. god i miss the 80's and the ****ed up movies they made then. i also got a copy of killer clownz from outer space. if you have not seen this movie you need to see it.
2.) Fox won their lawsuit in the "watchmen" case. so either fox is going to get a ton of cash or the watchmen isnt going to be released.
Oh I have Killer Klowns it is pure 80's gold. I love Critters as well. Have you seen all of them?
I don't know why, but there have been all sorts of crappy '80s movies on cable lately. Gremlins was on not too long ago. And just last week I saw Earth Girls Are Easy, Weird Science, Mannequin, Caddyshack, and Spaceballs. I didn't get a chance to watch Uncle Buck or The Great Outdoors though.Quote:

gremlins is the pinnical of what a good movie should be.
wierd science is classic, caddyshack classic, spaceballs classic. the 80's had some quality movies.

John Hughes was akin to Shakespeare. Now and then I'll find a good streaming 80's station just to hear classic sound track songs. Always puts me in a good mood.
Recently I've watched Real Genius, Ferris Bueller, Enemy Mine, The Last Starfighter, Buckaroo Banzai and Predator.
My gf's family got a big tv and surround sound along with a Ruko for xmas so we have been streaming netflix movies all night. I know it will take a lot of hours to convert it all but I think that their whole collection should be streamable. I don't see where they would loose money as it would save them the cost of shipping and man hours to process and pack them.
i love this netflix streaming so much i canceled my cable.
I actually haven't used the xbox netflix much since I have a regular cycle of their deliveries and dvr to kill what little free time I have.
That Ruko box is pretty slick. Once their collection is bigger maybe 30,000+ I will resign up.

a Little far from the horror Genre, but I LOVE Brain Donors, it's old but I'm in stitches every time I watch it, which is like 10 times till now.
