and while I'm having a gripe, I hate it when people use web terms in their sites!

I reckon pop-ups aren't bad if used correctly. Certainly the flash splash on the fullscreen page with the pop-up content is annoying but for certain application e.g. bulky quicktimes, a pop-up is perfect, basically because you can leave the page that triggered it and let it load in the background. Having said that, we have info (case studies and eye-candy pop-ups). Look, there are 3 designers and 1 of me, okay?
And don't tell me to put my video into Flash MX (can you say 'compressed'?)
There are also cool new pop-ups coming out, such as the 'chromeless' window. That's right, no stinky grey frame (pc ie5+, pc ns 6+) which defaults to a chromed window for pc/mac ns/ie>=4<5. I can't just ignore this clever coding.. I caaaaaaaaaaaaaan't!!
So what annoys me?
- Frames where there's one frameset for the entire site (how can I bookmark that??).
- Designer ****e (there's so much of it out there) - does *everyone* have to have that shards-of-glass graphic on their home page??
- Bad design, although I must admit I've come to find a certain fondness for information-rich sites with no design flair, especially those that have been around since year zero.
- Pages that are 100% image, cut into little chunks in ImageReady.
- Designers that refuse to design for IE<5 and NS<6. Sheesh.
- Flash for the sake of Flash (how many times have our designers said "when are we going to make a flash site?" Aaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggghhhhhhhhhhh! !!!

Look, the degree for which you command respect from your peers is often proportional to the degree for which you communicate. If yuu cant spel are too lasy to hit the shift key at the beginning of sentences or write 100 run-on sentences!! or dont know were to place comas and periods buy an idiots guide to speling do you know what i meen lol!! does that make sence ok bye

in flash mx with 100% quality, the swf was 5.6 meg
in flash mx with 90% quality, the swf was 706k
???
play with the settings, mx compresses the video well in some cases.
Just read the latest newsletter, so here's what annoys me in web design
- people who whack all their images on one page without any thumbnails
- sites which take forever to load
- some horrible background sound of a crap tune
- PeOpLe WhO type their font like that on their pages, caps on, caps off. You get the point
- sites which take up the whole screen, even covering my taskbar
That's all I can think of right now at 1:17AM.

Sorry. But when I played around with it with my demo copy, the compression made the clip look rather rats**t. I've had great success with other Sorenson codecs though, so it may have been that clip. My apologies if I offended anyone..
trying to figure out small content.
IE... etremely small ENTER buttons on the opening page,
or scrolling features where the arrows are TINY, or Navigation that requires precision mouse aiming...
Pop ups are bad when the user didn't ask for them. If i click a link and get a pop up of a video- great. If i got to your site and get 12 pop up ads for a cell phone, web cams and free smaple of viagra, you might as well say GOODBYE!!!Quote:

Sorry dude, button clicks are a neccesity, although only many people tend to tag on 20 different clicks on one button. Most web browsers use clicks, esp b/c it's not like changing a channel on your tv, it often takes a second to have something happen. When a click is not heard, the user thinks he/she didn't actually click the link. It's the when I do A, i expect B, when B doesn't occur, i click the stupid button again.Quote:

I agree with the Exec M. here. But odd Dog, we are dealing with clients, for the most part and because of that we don't have complete control over the content, more or less just the presentation of that content. Say a lady hires me to make a website about her and her lover. The only content she gives me is "I love Bob!" Well i mean sure, no body cares, but through careful, artistic design, and strategic presentation of the copy, then the content is handled well.Quote:

i was at a site and i was scrolling the iframe when i couldnt go down any further and realized that i now have to move the browser window in order to finish scrolling the iframe. i am on a 1024 x 768 resolution. i could just imagine what it would be like to be on 800 x 600.
