^What if it is only 3 categories?
(Best overall game, best graphics, best gameplay)
That shouldn't by a problem.

That's like jayisgames' judging panel.
^there's no problem with that, right?
Sorry I've come to this thread after a load of pages have been added, but what's wrong with the old voting categories ?
The rule being you can't vote for the same game twice, aside from overall game (So when voting for Game A, you can vote for it in best graphics and best overall, but not also in most addictive etc. ).
It means that there's more chance for people to walk away with something from it, for example a game may pick up best graphics but not win overall, at least the developer who has spent the time on the graphics gets some acknowledgement for it.
It's just the overall votes which count for best game, ie the winner, everything else are just feel good votes.
Squize.
Just stick to this.Quote:

That means something...
just look back at the past challenges, it worked PERFECTLY with multiple categories!
what if you learned a whole bunch of techniques and had tons of fun?
nah, doesn't matter unless everybody acknowledges that you are the sole winner of everything.
Look, I've mentioned many times that winning in this contest at this point doesn't mean anything. But, by adding a bunch of categories for people to win, there is an unstated assumption that winning does mean something. And I'm saying that if winning is supposed to mean something, then making everyone a winner is counterproductive. Plus, in my opinion, it's just a hassle having to vote on so many different things.Quote:

If you want to compliment someone on their documentation, nothing stops you from doing that outside the bounds of the contest.
But again, I don't care either way. Just offering the alternate view.
The winner is the person who gets the most votes in the overall section.
It's not a case of being ultra liberal "We're all winners, well done everyone", it's a case of encouraging people to enjoy developing Flash games and to take it further.
If someone completing their first ever game comes even second in say "Most original" isn't that better than finding out they've come 8th overall ? Won't that give them more of a boost ?
There is only one winner, then there are placings in the separate categories. It's not watering down the win for anyone, it's not making everyone equal.

I agree, keep more categories since it lightens the atmosphere and makes it more fun for everyone.
I must say that there is a lot of discussion about very minor issues in this thread. Just go with the flow.
Just letting everyone know: The challenge will start 48 hours, 10 minutes! So be prepared...
:)
Well, count me out. I thought we were voting about when...
I think it was set to this weekend because most of the people said they couldn't do it today nor the past weekend (?)
^Yep
Bah humbug!
I won't be able to participate this weekend.
I'm not disputing the timing for this one, we've had enough dispute already, but maybe for future events you could announce a date more than 2 days ahead of time. I'm thinking maybe even go into the range of a couple weeks ahead of time so there's time to adjust it based on people's schedules.
Or maybe we already did this and I was out of the loop. I'm not trying to raise a fit, it's just something to think about for next time.
^sorry about that, I thought I posted it in this thread....
I did announce it a few days earlier, but in the theme thread, and not the main thread. Big apologies for this...Quote:

Yeah, that would be good. If not there's gonna be very few entries if most of the people won't be able to enter.
