Zidane, apparently, is blaming something Materazzi said for provoking him, no one else knows what. But it's just a cop out, who cares what Materazzi said, in football everything has been said to provoke opponents, it's a constant stream of digs and insults. Zidane is the only one to blame for the assault, it doesn't matter what was said, he lost it and physically assaulted another player, he deserved to be sent off.
He's been one of the world's greatest players but now he'll always be remembered for this, for letting his country down.
Just watched the incident on youtube, looks like the only person consolling him after he got the card was the Italian keeper, buffon. Weird.
Didn't they play together in Italy?Quote:

Just had a French reporter on the telly, seems like it wasn't racism but just a plain 'ole "yo momma" type jibe that pushed him over the edge.
What Matarazzi didn't know is that Zidane's mother is seriously ill right now, imagine that you're stressed about a huge game like this, worried about your mother and then some idiot calls her a whore right in your face. Unless you're in that situation I dont think you can say how you'd react.
I dont see it as so bad, they lost because Trezeguet missed his pen. End of.
At the end of the day people who love and know their football will always remember ZZ for his grace, skill and just being a joy to watch....not for the headbutt.
What I find interesting is that even after Zidane gave him the head butt, the majority French fans continued to boo Italy every time they got the ball. Speaking of, why were there so many French fans compared to Italian fans? They are both next door to Germany and we know Italy is obsessed with the game, so why weren't they there?
apparently Zidane had seen it done before.

It's also a theory that he said something bad about Zidane's previous coach, who died of cancer just before the world cup...
But Zidane will tell his agent his version of the story in one of the coming days, and we might get to know what happened.
Rubbish! They lost because of the coach and zidane... if the coach hadn't taken Henry off and Ziddy had stayed on, that would have been two pennas that they would have scored! (Even if Zidane did almost fluff his earlier penelty).Quote:

Knowing the story behind the headbutt I do kind of feel sorry for Z. Its something he shouldn't have done, but I can now see why he did it.
But the only pen France missed was Trezeguet's. Its not like Zidane would have replaced him as pen taker, headbutt/sending off or no sending off Trez still would have taken a pen and still missed.Quote:

The greatest show on earth is over. All in all it was an interesting world cup.
Especially in the group stages - we were treated to some vintage attacking football resulting in a flurry of goals. But sadly in the knockout stage the coaches took over resulting in Defensive football with hardly any goals and most of the games went to penalties.
It would have been great if some Latin American team like Brazil or Argentina would have reached the semis, or even some African team would have been good. The two best European teams playing attacking football - Holland and Czech. Republic also went out and we got to see boring football in the semis. and finals.
Its a long wait till the next world cup !!!
Those two are higher up the pecking order... so would have taken their pens first. Leaving enough time for the Italians to put one over the bar! ;)Quote:

The French captain, in his last ever professional game, thrust his head into Materazzi's chest in Sunday's World Cup Final resulting in a red card and shame for Zidane. Today, with the help of Italian lip-reader Arturo Belladini, we can reveal what drove Zidane to self destruct;
Materazzi was seen to hold Zidane's shirt on the edge of the penalty box in extra-time at which point Zidane said
"if you want my shirt so bad you can have it"
Materazzi responded
"I dont want your shirt you m***** f*****. you're a f****** old man"
As they jog away Zidane is seen to laugh at this and it is unclear how he responded due to him having his back to the TV camera
Materazzi then hit a volley of abuse
"you should've quit 2 years ago, you're a f****** has-been"
"m***** f*****! your mum is a f****** muslim terrorist and you are to, f*** you old man f*** you"
"old man, this arena is not for you anymore m***** f*****"
Zidane carries on jogging away
'you are only good enough for Newcastle now' - It's at this very point Zidane turned and head-butted him."
;)
Hahaha... I'd heard that but the punch line was about a crap team like Tottenham or scumderland... ;)Quote:

This whole incident reminds me of Slap Shot. "Hey Hanrahan! Suzzane eats..."
Trash talking guys and baiting them into taking stupid penalties is nothing new. You'd think a veteran like Zidane would know better.
Ha! I knew it was an insult about his mother. Don't you talk about my mama!
SpockBert you deserve an Best screenplay Oscar for this. LOL.Quote:

Repentant Zidane quickly forgiven.
But although Zidane punctuated his apology by claiming he did not regret his actions, the French football world has rounded in support of their iconic talisman.
"Don't you think that the vice-president of the Italian senate saying that his team beat a team of blacks, islamists and communists is worse (than my head-butt)?" said Zidane.
"Don't you think that's serious? That shocked me. My gesture was shocking but for me that is worse. When you hear that, it hurts."
