Do aliens exist?

I myself try to be very open minded to other people's opinions and would suggest that the view of Christianity expressed by flipshark is perhaps more close minded or uninformed than that of some Christians.

Not all Christians believe as fact that dinosaurs never existed. There is a chapter in the Bible, in Daniel I believe, that speaks of a time that goes before man was created and opens up what is called "The Gap Theory" that says that there is a gap between when God created the heavens and the earth and when he created man, which would suggest that dinosaurs could have existed and the world could be a lot older than the History of the writings of the Bible. (There are also many Christians who believe in evolution, yet they believe that God designed the process, not just random or chance).

2) Believe all scientific dating methods are inaccurate including both potassium, carbon, radio carbon and all other dating methods.


I covered this with the above statement.

3) Ignore the fossil evidence of Lucy and all other astrolopithicus's, calling them nothing more than weird shaped rocks or deformed humans/apes who fossilized in Noah's great flood.


Again I covered this with the above statement.


4) Ignore all greco-roman history that predates the age the bible says the earth is.


Again I think I covered this with the above statement, but I might need further clarification on what actually happened historically that contrasts with what the Bible says.


5) Accept that over 5.3 billion people in the world are wrong in their believes and will merely burn in hell for eternity because they believe something other that what I do.


This is where Christianity is said to be "closed minded" and I will try to keep this as brief as possible, yet try to summarize it as well as I can. As a person I must consult all of the evidence around me to determine where I came from and why I am here. I have researched to no end and still do and up to this point in my life have come to the conclusion that there is enough evidence supporting the Bible for me to believe it to be true, based on the historical evidence the Bible presents as well as non-biblical historical findings that support the Bible. Thus that led me to research why Christianity and why not all of the other religions out there? With many years of research and to make a long story short, ever since the day I decided to accept Jesus as the Lord of my life, He has changed everything. I can talk to Him and expect an answer, anything I've ever needed, God has provided, from everything from my wife that I met (because of God) to a job that I never should have had. For me there is no other explanation than "It's God".

Well, thats the short version, sorry to bore you.


6) Turn a blind eye to anything scientific and hide behind the god made it and so it is so routine. Then when anything undeniably true comes along (and I can hide it by burning someone at the stake) I will merely use misinterpretations of the book to explain this. (Then again the earth is probably flat anyway, and NASA is just full of bull)


This I think is just rambling, like you said, and I won't respond to this unless asked to.


I'd go on but there really is no end to this................................... Ignore my ramblings it's 2 AM and I've been up since 6am yesterday... getting cranky I guess.

I haven't read this thread since it past the 3 page mark, so I'll have to go back read all the new stuff (I have no idea how it came this), but you did quote flipshark as saying "believe in it [bible] right down to the last letter" which means that earth was created in a day, everything happened in exactly a week (7 days) as the bible says, so, even though there are christians that believe those things, there can not be this gap theory as it isn't interpreting the bible word-for word.

The bible does mention days, but the bible also says that days are interpreted differently to God than they are to man. The way we measure time is different than the way God measures time, and we must take that into consideration when trying to put a timeline on the creation of the world.

Why not expand your minds a bit Fusion/Flasher. There are things about life which are beyond our comprehension, hence aliens. There are things which we can now comprehend, such as the evolution of our universe. There is no point on sitting there and denying things and trying to justify the bible, its a good read, dont go overboard about it. Many of the geat scientific leaders in our world are christians (most arent, theyre usually buddhist or hindu) and they reconcile themselveswith the understanding that yes they have a faith in a higher God, but they dont delude themselves with what they have learnt. Taking the bible as the absolute truth, when even yourselves conceed it was written by men, means that any provable contradiction will render it false. So be flexible and understand the bible to be a very old story. Wether God created man or not, dosent, and shouldnt matter to christians. You as a group have been so caught up proving yourselves to everyone that you forgot the real purpose of religion is to provide guidance through life, not tell us where we cane from, or where we are going, just offer guidance and help when it is needed.

And where does ot say that in the bible ?? Or once again is this, like the entire religious experience, mans interpretation of gods will. Man created God, God tell man what to do, Man does wrong thing, man says God made me do it, God forgives man.

Bad luck for the rest of us who didnt believe in this god you made up in the first place.

I have always been of the opinion that the Bible isn't all inclusive and that it does not speak to every issue that we can bring up or think of, (like Aliens), which was my point. For me there is not enough evidence either in science or the Bible to conclude whether other lifeforms do or do not exist.

And yes, I look to God and the Bible for mainly guidance and purpose through life, but then draw conclusions about the world around me from evidence from science as well as the Bible.

Well, after reading most of this thread, I have to say that I think aliens do exist.

I've made my stand on all this religious stuff already, if anyone's interested, I'll be glad to cut and paste for you

Yeah, there is enough problems in the world over religion already. Why create more, I'm outa here.

Peter gives us an example of how different time is to God in this verse:

2 Peter 3
8 But you must not forget, dear friends, that a day is like a thousand years to the Lord, and a thousand years is like a day.

He references it backwards and fowards stating God's infinite outlook on life and time.

I wish this thread had stuck to the original question. There could have been some decent theories or ideas or experiences put forward and instead, we've got a selection of the same old 'religion this, religion that' banter, same boring flavour, just a different day.

Not to mention onlinegs has a thread petitioning to have this one closed, which I have three-quarters of a mind to agree with, but won't.

If you people want to discuss God, religion etc and the liklihood of either's existence or not, perhaps you should consider getting your own thread. Too late now, but perhaps you'd eb so kind as to keep it in mind for the future.

If someone says something in one thread about God, Im not gonna say "Okay Im gonna make a new thread for that". Im gonna post it right then and there.

I think it all depends on what you consenter an alien.
Someone said at the beginning of the board that he believe cockroaches where.

It seems that the post that started this was when someone mentioned the seemingly accepted validity of the "Big Bang Theory", and then a reply was made to that.

But I find it odd that when theories such as those are mentioned there is nothing said like ("Oh, why are you making this about the Big Bang Theory", or "Why are you making this about evolution", or "You people are all the same"), yet when (to non-believers) a "Theory" about God is introduced, it must be uninformed nonsense that shouldn't be included in an intelligent discussion that didn't start on "Religion". And with the lack of evidence supporting the big bang or evolution (for example: the ability to reproduce it), it is just as hard to believe in those theories as it would be to believe in God. And by the way, I hate Religion. "Religion" is a box that we have created to define the parameters of God, but God is so much bigger than any Religion or box that we can try to understand Him in.
