Was a theme decided on yet or will it be announced when the competition begins?
When the comp begins. The theme will be decided based on all the 2 words everyone suggested in the thread about the theme.
I'm not suggesting to change the format now but I think the comp would work much better over a larger time limit. Like a month/week. That gives people time to work on it when it suits them. More people would be able to enter.
the overal idea is to improvise- to prototype make something fresh or new in a limited amount of time. Otherwise some people start pimping and pushing their stuff to the max while others really just have those 2 days or less.
Yeah I get the idea, but don't think it would run as well. I think people would be less inclined to set aside two days to work on this comp over a couple hours each day for a period of a week, maybe a month is a bad example but a week for a prototype/idea seems fairly reasonable. Just would be much easier to run with everyone's time difference too. Anyway, it was just a thought which is probably too late to raise :)
If they had a week long competition, it would be slightly unfair. Some people like myself have school on weekdays and rely on weekends for creating Flash games. People who are past school might spend all of their time on the computer.
On the other hand, however, people may work on weekends and and need it to be on weekdays. In that sense, I agree. I say, however, that there should be 2 competitions. One for weekdays and one for weekends.
Anyways, that's my opinion. Feel free to disagree.
Its all good it was just a suggestion. Thought a longer period would help afford people the time to work on it. Personally I would be more enthusiastic if it was a slightly bigger time frame because me like a few people here are self employed and work some weeks 7 days.
What about timezones? While everyone is using the last 6 hours of their time to refine their entries and sort out any bugs, I will be asleep, getting ready for work the next morning. Six hours isn't much by way of development time until the entire span of the project becomes 48 hours.
Not to mention I work with Flash every single day, so I don't want to spend my entire weekend on a Flash project only to go to work afterwards and work on more Flash projects; however, I do small amounts of personal flash work during work and after work. Weekends are for time spent outdoors in the sun, and exercising.
I'd love to participate, but it looks like it wont be happening :(
Ok, sorry to hear that Skribble Style.
:(
During a competition, would people be allowed to ask for help with their games or would it be considered cheating?
that is if you are lucky enough to get help at that time
For minor things.
Eg.
What is the problem with this code (shows 10 lines of code).
What is NOT okay is when you ask people to write code/design graphics for you.
such posters usually get anyway referred to the freelance section- where such things belong
Normally when a comp is running the board becomes a ghost town.
The thread where the topic is announced / it gets started from usually starts with:
"I've got an idea"
"me too"
"I've just fixed this..."
And then it goes very quiet as people just try and get it done :)
Squize.
Could someone please tell me a good length (in pixel) for the banner you can put in the sig when you win? I'll get started on making it then.
:)
FK allows images in footer with these conditions:
Maximum File Size: 15kb
Maximum dimensions: 300x40 pixels
^Thank you!
