i have just read through all the pages of this thread an i thought i would post seeing as i havent posted in it before. bit of useless information which is becoming of this thread anyway.
Never the less, i am seriously fondered, about Propod.
Hope it awakens soon....

if you think about it, though, wouldn't you expect a thread titled
FI + 2A to have this many responses no matter what? I'm not surprised at all.
Propod was originally and still is the name given to FI's engine developed for flash intensive "websites". It stands for "Pro Platform" and we developed this system over the past 4 years. Today, you can experience it active when you visit www.firestormpc.com notice that files are loaded even before you get there, pending on connection, we have enabled this part of the system since www.fido.se and on the old Starbreeze site. However, on all the sites we have built, Propod is only enabled 10/20% due to server bandwidth restrictions and costs. Firestormpc is enabled up to 70%.
Propod.com was were I wanted to develop my personal corner, however, today "personal websites" I feel are rapidly becoming mainstream and quite boring at the end of the day, bar 1 or 2. It was interesting to read some of the speculation here, but not suprising there was no correct speculation. Over the coming period of early 2003, we will release information concerning the details of what Propod is. It will still stand for Pro Platform but not in respect to the Propod Engine.
There are many areas under-developed and over looked within our industry. It grew so fast and the competition amongst ourselves competing for breakthrough design has dominated more than competing for actual clients, thanks some what to our economy. There is no such thing as the perfect well balanced site, not even close, however, FI and 2A among very few others seem to be going in a clear direction, a direction which enables them to improve and produce styles, break barriers and revolutionise interactivity, bringing us one step further to a balanced and "perfect" site production. Now Propod.com is not going to state the 5 steps to developing the perfect site, it will be a focused organisation consisting of the world's best in our industry coming from every category aimed to revolutionise and promote interactivity, design, functionality and usability. It is not a flashkit or a k10k, it is the 3rd instalment or 3rd point in the triangle for what we feel is missing to quicker guidance and education in enhancing the internet.

We hope to launch Propod as soon as possible. Since conception, early/mid 2003 has always been its intended launch. There has been no official press release or announcement made, bar this reply to an intensive thread which judging by the amount of interest I felt deserved some direction and reply. It is neccessary to state *after a lot of speculation* that at this time and during early 2003, all official statements will be published at location : www.propod.com , concerning companies and organisations involved as well as what is Propod? How will it effect you? And how can you influence Propod?

What? You're going to regulate free speech now? I suppose I agree with "pointless bashing", but mostly I have seen people having doubts about anything new really occuring, which I can understand.Quote:

Their ideas sound great from a marketing perspective, but bottom line is that it sounds just like a form of preloader, as was suggested very early in this thread, and as the example sites given above do - preload content before displaying it.
There is no magic to Flash or the communication server. There are more intelligent ways of using it of course, which hopefully 2A and FI would be at the limit of using well - you would presume anyway.
Not dismissing or putting down anyone, but I do recognise the difference between new technology and a new spin on current technology. Each have their different uses, but at the same time important for those within the developer community to recognise each and learn how to utilise ourselves.
I stand ready to be corrcted when I actually see anything new - I mean damn, we'd all love to see new technology - but at present I believe I'm seeing some very good marketing on some exsisting technology.
Impressive in its own way nonetheless...
(especially as I become more of a marketer than developer myself)

I'm just trying to provide a well-balanced counter to all the "I love 2A/FI" and "I hate 2A/FI" posts which seem to dominate these threads. I suppose it's the hype that comes with a "brand name", but much of these past 17 pages seem to have bounced from one to the other more than adding anything to the discussion. Choose any randomn page and you'll see what I mean...

I would like to see what is going on and I applaud 2A and FI for their covert little exercise in marketing, but I am not nearly as anxious as some here seem to be.
It has probably been over a year since I have really been blown away by something on the web and it seems to me that 2A and FI have both nearly reached the peak of what can be done.
I just hope for 2A and FI, just like LeBron James, that things are able to live up to the hype.
